I'll second that. My first Heinlein was an old copy of
Glory Road, one of my dad's old books in a box in the the back of a closet. Not my favorite of his but it got me started. I would agree that "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" is a good place to start.

I spen 4 hour wrapping tonight. I wrap for every here.
I use candy to decorate the packages. The 2 year old pup kept trying to steal the candy. All hard, no chocolate. They both managed to snack a couple pieces. Blu likes oreo candy canes.
The kittens wanted attack the ribbon, paper and bows.

Once my dog,(a Dalmatian) put his front paws on the counter in the kitchen and ate a nearly whole chocolate cake!! Eating all that chocolate didn't faze him at all!!! He lived 13 years!!! The cake did not make him sick!! One day in my late teens, my parents took the dog and had him euthanized. He had health problems! Had trouble walking, couldn't eat!

I had a collie when I was a teen. We got home one day & she skunked outside, fast. I knew she gotten into something. S we had left a whole chocolate cake on the counter. She ate the whole thing. Then finished off the can of frosting. Not sure how she got the lid off the frosting. I don't think there is much real chocolate in some things that are chocolate flavored.

The movie has almost nothing in common with the book other than bugs. I did enjoy the movie but treated it as if it wasn't related to the book. The book, in my opinion, is much much better.

Anybody else a fan of Spider Robinson? He's a fan of Robert Heinlein and John D. MacDonald. If you haven't read anything of his, I'd suggest his Callahan's Crosstime Saloon series. Spider has a unique outlook without being as quirky and "out there" as Kurt Vonnegut.

*Sets down a plate of rumballs. * "We made these with Captain Morgan." *Picks up The Cat Who Walks Through Walls and settles down with him in a big overstuffed easy chair by the fireplace with a bottle of chocolate beer. * "Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, whatever!"

Looks at the present in the back, yeah that's mine!! Thanks who ever got it for me!! Tears it open. It's a pewter dragon statue!!! Just like the one I had in the late 90s!!! A guy I was with made me throw that one away!! He said anything sci-fi related was of the devil!! That statue was a one of a kind!! After it was made, the artist destroyed the mold!!

Oh, a trip to Hobbiton would be right up my alley. A visit to NZ has been on my bucket list for years, although it's very unlikely it'll ever happen.

We haven't really worked on getting a new washing machine yet. Now that holidays are over, we might be able to do something.

I hope you get that washer situation settled soon. I think of washer/dryers as essential today.

Thankfully there are laundromat. With the larger machines I can get 3 normal loads into one. Wash & dried in 2 hours for about 10 dollars. My sister washes some clothes at my other sister's house.

The last time I used a laundromat was when Jeff & I were engaged, 43 years ago. His apartment did not have a washer/dryer so I would take his stuff down the street a couple blocks to the laundromat. Our kids have been lucky that every place they rented has had machines in the unit. Jenn & Mike have had their own house for 4 years now. We got them a new dryer a couple years ago when the old one that was in the house gave out.

I forget how huge those industrial machines are. At least it does not take long or a large amount of money. Do they still have coin slots to make them work or is there some new method?

At the laundromat that I've gone to in the past, the machines are coin operated!! The dryers are free!!

Laundromat here are coin or credit card. I use the washers made for 40lbs.

Wanders through the room and with a wave of a hand the debris from the party is cleared away. A large cat condo appears in one corner of the room as well as several assorted boxes. A cat sized fountain and a couple self feeders pop into existence a few feet from the condo.

Moves to the library and double checks that all the seats have washable covers in the event of a cat invasion. Rearranges a couple chairs to take advantage of the fire.

I'll add some cat nip toys and some thick foam pieces inside those boxes for extra kitty snuggling.

We actually did that. I did a huge clear out of our guest room (found the bed, that had been covered with piles of stuff) and one enormous item was a 3 inch thick foam mattress topper we no longer wanted. Jeff took out the electric knife, generally used for carving turkeys, and cut it up into chunks to bag for the garbage. Of course, several nice pieces made it into the cats favorite boxes and they sure are comfy!

I prefer cats, anywho!!!! Not a dog person!! Mausey, you forgot the litter boxes!!!

Adds self cleaning litter boxes, and big pile of soft fuzzy blankets.

I'll be happy to clean the litter boxes. Those self cleaning boxes are ridiculous looking and I have always thought they would be scarey to cats. The kitties will love the soft blankets!

One time my younger brother and I played that and he killed off a character of mine! He said "as your thief leans down to get the gem, the roof falls in." He didn't let me test for traps or do a saving throw!

It happen. We barely made it out. Check for traps before you do anything, sometimes it works.

We had a Dalmatian and we had pushed the chocolate cake away from the edge of the counter in the kitchen and while we slept, he put his front paws on the counter and ATE that cake! We had eaten some cake after dinner. The cake was gone before morning. Eating the cake did not harm him.

How's that giant washing machine, mawra? Have you fallen in head first and needed to be rescued? Is it going to live permanently in the kitchen? I suppose that works for water hookup and drain pipe.
