I still don't understand the double standard here, one girl just gets the sugar and creamer without asking, when I ask I'm told "no"! I don't know why she tells me "no", I help her alot! More than the other girl does!

I remember when my parents and I went up to Washington D.C. for the Smithsonian's 150th anniversary, while mom and I were waiting for dad to return in the car, we saw the "missing man formation" flyover! We were at Arlington national cemetery, we (my parents and I) also saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the unknown soldier. I had wanted to look at some of the names on the Vietnam Wall, but dad didn't want me to.

The library I used to volunteer at has hired yet another director. This will be 4 in 3 years. The first was let go for reasons unknown, the next got a better job in a larger place, the 3rd one walked off without notice (turns out she was completely overwhelmed, had her dad doing her paperwork) so now we have #4. I met her once and she seemed very nice, friendly and really excited to start what she said was her last job before retiring. Well, I went to the pick up a book and the other staff member who I have known for years was almost in tears. We stepped into another room and she spilt everything. The new director comes in, says hello and then locks herself in her office. And the door is locked, not just closed, she swapped offices for one that she could lock from the inside. She won't answer the phone or come out to visit patrons. All the calls she takes are screened and it seems she will only speak to people she knows or board members. She's using some of the library for storing her stuff, she has 40 or so boxes in different places. She was standing in a meeting with several people when some library programming was discussed then a couple days later says she wasn't told about any of it and throws the other lady under the bus. At the moment it doesn't seem like the volunteers will be back.

That is truly sad, Mausey. I suppose you know who was responsible for hiring this odd sounding person (and there I am being generous with my description). You say you used to volunteer there? Did you stop because of things getting more chaotic and have you now focused your efforts on the Roundhouse? Libraries should be open and welcoming places. This person does not sound like a good fit at all. Was this the BEST they could find?!

I was using stuff from my own life as ex. or ideas, I have verys careful what I use, but I am gglad you found a work around.

I once worked for a fast food restaurant and the GM often had me walk to the local Kroger to get spoons or forks for the customers. She was putting me down for fewer and fewer work hours! On one paycheck ( got paid every 2 weeks), I earned $27! At the time, weekly transit cards were $13. I would not have had enough for lunches while I was at work! When I saw how little I got paid, did NOT go back! The GM did not like me! She told me not to move her food on the grill (I was the grill operator), but one time I had to move her food to make room for burgers. She saw I'd moved her food, so she slapped my face! A fellow employee SAW her slap me! I wanted to call the cops on her but I figured if I went to the payphone, she'd have fired me!

I have absolutely no say in who is hired. The board advertised and interviewed all the ones who seemed a good fit. The biggest problem is we're a small town and you can't really ask somebody to move here for a 6 month probationary period to see how they'll work out. In the 38 years I volunteered there we had 2 absolutely fantastic directors, 2 pretty good, and 2 disasters and whatever this one will be. For the past 5 years, every time the director leaves or gets let go, the only other paid staff member takes over as acting director and does a very good job. However as acting director she can't make any changes and has to stick with whatever mess the previous director left her with. As she has no formal training they won't give her the directors job even though she does it very well.

I did not think you had any say. That is really unfortunate as it sounds like the current person is in the running for "biggest mistake." That is very sad that the other paid staff can't have the position. Bureaucrasy sometimes does stupid stuff simply because that's how it has always been done.

Just now, told the girl who refuses me sugar when I ask for some, that today's my birthday. She then told me happy birthday. I don't think it counts if the birthday person has to tell others it's his/her birthday! I think the birthday wish is supposed to be spontaneous!

I've not had a haircut since before the virus started. My hair is down to my waist. All my life I wanted long hair. When I was a kid my mother was very "thrfty" and cut my hair short and with chunks that stuck out. I had curly hair and she had no idea how to cut it. I dreamed of having the long, straight hair that was popular when I was in high school in the late 60's. Well, I've had it now and enjoyed it but it is too thick and holding it together with a pony tail elastic makes my head hurt. So I will get some of it chopped off, leaving enough for a (hopefully easier) pony tail.

Got confused a little while ago. The girl who just gets the other girl's sugar and creamer without asking, told me to put a chair on the side of the couch, "no! The other side." I did that! She then told me I was doing it wrong! You don't want the chair on one side or the other! Where do I put the chair, then?? :annoyed and confused look:

I wish I had money for that! The girl took the cushion covers off to wash them. Some of my housemates have to sit in the chairs. We had to move the chairs ourselves! The girl is quite bossy! One time she heard me call her "boss" she said " don't call me that. " Why not? You act like one! Now the bossy girl says "if you don't want to do something just say so." Earlier, she told a lady I don't stay seated like I'm supposed to. I can't with her calling me constantly!

I can't imagine living like that. It sounds like none of you are 12 years old, though some seem to act like it! Is there no place else you could live that would be more peaceful/less stress?

Doing different surveys so I can order stuff from Amazon or Walmart! Some surveys have gift cards that one can use. If or when I see the lady the bossy girl lied on me to, I'm gonna tell her "I try to sit in one spot but it seems I'm not allowed to by the girl. She keeps wanting me to do stuff for her! She didn't tell you that!"

We've been trying to get hold of a roofer to look at the occasional water ingress issue we know we have pretty much since the day we moved in - in 2014 - without success.

Finally today we actually got someone to go and take a look, mainly because they were doing work next door!

Big problem we have is that you can't *see* 90% of our roof. Because it's at quite a shallow angle there's no line of sight on it.



Turns out that the bit of water ingress we were aware of was because an entire ridge tile is missing. It has been missing for a long time. Like "since the 90s" sort of long.

That however is just the tip of the iceberg, long term water ingress from there and due to the failure of the felt under the tiles means that the bottom foot or so of the roof basically isn't there - the tiles are holding the structure together.

So basically we need two completely new roofs and repairs to the two smaller areas.

Budget? Assuming no more horrors are unearthed when the work starts (yeah...on this house? They'll find plenty I'm sure), somewhere in the region of GBP 15-20K. Entirely possible though that could more than double.

What fun.

Just a screenshot from Google Earth to show the layout as it's a bit odd. Guy is hopefully going to send over photos of the damage later today.

Worst part is that we aren't even planning to stay here long term, but we can't not fix it...so it's literally just money down the drain!

Also once again proves that the "enhanced survey" we had done before we bought the place was indeed just a complete waste of nearly GBP1000.

Went to the thrift store today. Donated some clothes and found 2 silverplate tea "Bombilla" spoons. Basically a spoon/straw with the spoon end being a small strainer! I had never seen anything like them. Most likely for drinking iced tea with the strainer keeping out any random tea leaves. However, I am thinking they could be useful for alcoholic drinks that have pieces of fruit in them. Polished them up and they can go in two of the kids Christmas stockings. They can puzzle over what they are!
