Selfportrait
This selfportrait was taken in the spring of 2004 and is, of course, a funny take on the famous bronze "The Thinker" by Rodin. I should have been naked for the optimum effect but... hey, it was a nippy spring that year ![]() Foreground is unsharp/blurred, if the picture had been sharp all the way the foreground, very near the eye of the beholder, would have demanded too much attention. Even now I'm not 100% sure if the balustrade isn't too demanding. Still, I was after the effect of the balustrade while I took advantage of the empty pedestal and am curious to what others think of this. The picture was taken in a park near Haarlem. Camera Make: OLYMPUS OPTICAL CO.,LTD Flash Used: No Exposure Time: 0.0015 s (1/650) ISO Equiv.: 100 Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto) ![]() Old and new These are two old pictures, taken in Brussels. My analog camera's were Olympus camera's (OM1 and OM10, seperate for black & white and colour). These are scans of course. ![]() ![]() Sacre Coeur The last picture this time is much older and taken on my honeymoon in Paris, Fall 1979 (uh, yes, we celebrate 30 years of marriage next year). It is the Sacre Coeur (Cathedral of the Holy Heart), in Paris up on the hill of the quartier Montmartre (mont meaning hill or mountain). The beautifully (steel?)blue sky without the merest hint or whisper of cloud and the stone used in building the cathedral makes this picture. It is, of course, a scan but nothing is photoshopped in this photograph and it is not manipulated during developing and printing. There was a certain amount of luck, but then, photography luck can often be induced by patience and skill. One of the lucky things here is that the church is on a hill so, looking up to the blue sky and thus avoiding any "interference" of lamp posts or other city things was natural. ![]()

The First photo of you posing like Rodin's *Thinker* is a very
fun and artistic photo. I think it truly shows a lovely part of your true personality...your very unique and wonderful sense of humor... ![]() Nudity... ![]() the original, if a bit... ![]() MoMers... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The last photo of the church is quite remarkable...and lovely. The stark white of the church against the brilliant blue of the sky...is indeed beautiful. To bad there is a tour bus in the lower right corner.

That one of Sacre Coeur is amazing! It feels so uneartly with the perfect sky and the crisp whites of the church.
The "Thinker" is great too ![]()

You have a sharp eye, Maelin
![]() I would have liked if there were no bus and no tree on the left, but I had to work with what I had ![]() I could make it disappear but for some reason I am/was not keen on photoshopping this picture. And something more about the selfportrait. My name is "van der Boom", which literaly translated into English would be "from the Tree", so having this background in this selfportrait is an extra pun ![]()

I don't know enough about photography to make any intelligent judgments but I know what I like and what I don't and I like these. I wonder about the first one, though. I'd always been told that the original "Thinker" was trying to remember where he'd put his clothes. So, was this subject wondering what would happen if he shed his?

Some very nice shots, Hans. The colors in the first one are great, and the one of the cathedral is like you said; every once in a while, everything clicks.
