Can't you plug your fullsize keyboard into your lappy? I can on mine.

I tried to do that, P'ter, but didn't seem to have the right connecting thingies. However, Steven (he's the brains of the operation) found the right bit that the proper keyboard can plug into, so I should be ok tomorrow.
And in the meantime, my wonderful husband has given me my Christmas present a month and a half early. A new computer will be winging its way to me on Friday. Did you hear that? Full Hallelujah chorus... That Steven B is one pretty terrific (and generous!) fellah. Lucky, lucky me! ![]()

Nah. Zadok Beard is just too bizarre...
![]() And thanks for the kind words. It's only - er - 17 months until the book is due on bookstore shelves. (Well, that sounds better than 'two years' anyway!) I'm not sure if they are thinking of changing the title, but at the moment it's still Winds of Change and Shaping. I was going to call the series The End of Old Songs, but not sure how that will work. It'll probably end up being called - hey not a bad idea - Name of the Winds. Oooh! Maybe I'll suggest that to Claire. You saw it here first, folks. and if I can't get back to my writing soon I'm going to go nuts. Thank goodness for Steven. Laptops are ok for emergencies, but I just don't like 'em. Just like a junkie without a fix. Be glad you are all a long way away!

Arggh! I've sung that and now I'll never hear the real words in my head again!

Try "... And the choir with gleals of pee!"
Or the many versions of Wee Free Kings. Or "Hark the herald angels sing 'Mrs Simpson's pinched our king'."

Have you ever heard Tom Lehrer's Christmas song? can't recall the name just now, but it is cynical, blackly humorous and distorts more carols in just a few minutes that one would think possible. That said - I hope you caught the video "12 Days of Christmas" by the group Straight No Chaser last year. They have since taken it off YouTube, darn it, and released it on a CD. Personally, I think they'd get more sales if they re-released the video, which was brilliant. Hilarious - men's close harmony singing, mutilating 12 Days of Christmas with verve and gusto!
Edit - yayy, it's back up! Enjoy folks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fe11OlMiz8

You surely remember this one too:
"We three kings of orient are Tried to smoke a rubber cigar It exploded. It went BANG! We two kings of Orient are. . ." (etc.) Elizabeth, I think Name of the Winds is a brilliant name! So glad your puter crisis is solved by generous spousal person, blessed be his screen. Catalyst just came out so I should oughta send you one. It has cats in. Lots. Hugs, and regards to your black cats from my black cats. Annie |

Annie - our version added another line -
"It was loaded, it exploded, BANG! We two kings..." But yeah, I remember. Just think if all the useless rubbish in our heads could be replaced with real stuff - imagine the processing power. We would rock! We could - we could rule the world!! Bwa ha ha ha ha!!! Ahem. I mean, like, theoretically. Of course. Our black cat and our black-and-tan cat say howdy to the DKOD. Which reminds me, time to give Zorro his pill... Check your pm folder, kiddo. Love E

Well, of course the song went through the folk process as it passed from grubby kid to grubby kid--I learned my version in Kansas City, you understand, where I grew up. Oh, I somehow thought both of your kitties were black. I am lobbying with my boys to let me have a couple of kittens, esp. one ginger one but so far they look at me and tell me they are perfectly adequate for my needs and that I'm being a cat racist, openly purrfurring gingers to such an extent.

Ah, but ginger cats are such excellent cats. And it means they have all the bases covered. The ginger cats can shed on dark fabrics, and the black cats on light fabrics. See? All taken care of.

Indeed. Sigh. We have had to get a special vacuum cleaner designed to pick up pet hair! It makes a big difference, but they manage to stay ahead of the technology. Sneaky beggars.

Samsara, Well, ginger is SUCH a pretty color why wouldn't you want a couch the same color as your cat? Only problem is she now has to find something else that will give her that high contrast her lovely shed fur so richly deserves.
