Does anybody know where to buy an eBook version of Catacombs? Not a Kindle version, but ePub or the likes.

I'm trying to cut down on paper books, so I have bought a Sony Reader.

It will be out on Nook pretty soon and I imagine it is also available for the Sony Reader. The publisher released it as an eBook so I imagine it's in everything. Did you google for it? It's not officially out till Dec. 7 but both B&N and Amazon are listing it as an incipient e-book.

Why do you think I posted feedback on that at the SFBC on your behalf. If you just knew how to spell one and not the other.

Oh, I didn't realise that it isn't out until the Dec. 7th. I tried to google it and only found links from Randomhouse to sites where it wasn't for sale, but I guess those same sites will have the eBook after the 7th, so I'll just wait a bit longer and have a look again. I usually buy eBooks at Kobobooks and they have Catalyst, so I am hoping they will also carry Catacombs.

I am also waiting for hte latest from Tad Willimas which is out on Nov. 30th, so I might just read that one while I wait for Catacombs.

I checked Kobobooks last night. They're still not showing Catacombs but they look a tad disorganized. They had Anne's mine and our books scattered throughout 50 pages of other books by Elizabeths, Anns and Annes or with those names in the titles.

Yes, Kobobooks is not the easiest site to search and find what you are looking for, but I like that they have regular discounts and I can also read the books I buy there on my cell phone if I should be stuck somewhere without my Reader.

The Tad Williams book that I was waiting for was online on the 30th which is the same day as the official paper book release date, so I am hoping to see Catacombs for sale on Kobobooks on the 7th then. And if I'm lucky there will be a new promo code to use by then for a little discount. I got 25% off on the Tad williams book, so maybe I will get lucky with Catacombs. I expect the author to get the same amount of money even though their book is being sold below the standard asking price, right?

No, the author only gets a percentage of whatever the book is actually sold for but better to sell it than not. They're selling the e-book for $14.30 which is a lot for an e-book, though it's less than half the price of the hardback so still a good deal. It will probably go down in a year to $9.99 as Catalyst is now.

Oh gosh, I did not know that. It seems a bit unfair for the author who put in the same amont of work regardless of the finished product being read in e or paper form. But on the other hand it seems a bit unfair on the buyer if they have to pay the same for an eBook as for a paper book seeing as there probably is less cost to produce and distribute the eBook compared to a paper book.

As you say, buying is better than not buying, so at least I'm not lending it at the library. Although I wish that my local library was nice and cosy and actually had some books that I would want to read.

Well, I think it will work out in the longrun--authors probably sell e-copies to people who might not pay full price for a hardback and get a chance to get them addicted to their books that way and the buyer does get a considerable discount over the paper price on the e-book. The hardback price is 26.00 and the ebook price is 14.30 right now. As I said, I imagine it will decrease when the paperback comes out (Barnes and Noble asked for trade paperbacks which typically sell for between $12-$15.00 instead of the 5.99-7.99 paperback so that's how the publisher put them out) it will probably be $9.99 at first at least, as Catalyst is. I wouldn't be surprised if the price didn't decrease again in the future. I am happy if people buy the book in whatever form and read the book and especially if they enjoy it.

I know a lot of authors consider libraries as enemies but that isn't necessarily the case. While there are some authors whose books I buy straight out, I rarely buy a book without reading a library copy first. I check them out and read them then, if I like them, I go out and buy them. For example, my entire Anne McCaffrey (and friends) collection started because of a book I checked out of the library primarily because it was "fat" and would provide a fair amount of reading time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say we regard the libraries as enemies at all--most of us did a lot of our reading there too. And librarians often promote books whereas a lot of booksellers don't.
The only consideration from my viewpoint is that if readers only get my books from the library, or from used bookstores as far as that goes, those "reads" do nothing to convince the publisher to buy another book from me. They only count new books sold. I'm actually most glad if people read them and like them but if the publisher doesn't buy another one (which is the case at this time), I can't keep going.

I bought Catacombs today at Kobo. There were a 30% discount, so I got it for 10.53 $. I'm inbetween jobs so I should hold on to my money if I can, I guess.
I'm currently reading Sadowheart by Tad Williams and that is more than 700 pages long, so it might be a couple of days before I get started on Catacombs. I might also reread Catalyst first.

I bought Catacombs as an eBook. I bought Catalyst in hardcover when it came out. I read it back then, but since it's been a while I thought I would read it again before reading Catacombs.

You'd have to order Dougal's Diary from the publisher's website--it's published by an Aussie indie publisher, www.clandestinepress.com.au or www.clandestine-books.com.au
Thanks for buying Catalyst. Hope you'll enjoy it and Catacombs both.

Thanks, GinnyStar. We have a publisher looking over our shoulder to see if our book sells and Dougal isn't in the same position. He doesn't have to be popular within a certain length of time or get put out of print.

Thank you for mentioning Kobobooks!

Now I have bought Catacombs as an e-book, and I have started reading Catalyst again before beginning on Catacombs.

I have tried several sites offering Catacombs before Kobobooks, and everyone of them refused to sell to me because I live in Denmark. A little more than irritating!!!

Have fun reading!

I used to have a wonderful book titled "The Silent Meow." It was a favorite of mine but somehow I lost it during my last move but one. As I remember, it was written from the point of view of a cat, teaching other cats how to conquer humans. It was full of photographs and I would recommend it to anyone who likes cats.

The Silent Meow is a classic! I still have a copy somewhere in my cat books.
Nina, these barque cats are living in a time before the Rowan's universe evolved--they too evolved but darnit, they wouldn't let us write the missing link books between the end of Catacombs and the Rowan's time. Sorry, guys, we tried.

Sorry to hear that, but I do have plans on order it. We got a new place, cats don't know what to make of the changes around here.
