Nef, well done! Hope they offer it to you.

Do you mind if I hijack your thread with a quick question? I've been having trouble tracking down a decent flat with an EBK, but saw a lovely one in the Weststadt today (private, so no agent fees!) which had a kitchen owned by the tenants, which they wanted to sell on to the next renter. They're wanting 2.5K for it... it sounds reasonable to me for a kitchen (I'll have to check that DOES include the appliances as well!) even though I wanted to avoid that situation... do you have any idea what people usually pay to fit kitchens to their non-EBK apartments?

Kath, it really depends on the size of the kitchen and appliances they include. I built my kitchen for around €1k, but its absolutely spartan. Sink, stove (electrical, 2 heating elements) ventilator, fridge (very small) and a table from IKEA.

Kath, I would say that it it really depends on type and state of kitchen. You could take a look at IKEA's webpage and compare with the price of a kitchen you could put in yourself. But since you won't be paying a Makler you are kind of saving 2 months rent. Weststadt is a very nice part of Heidelberg and you have easy access to the bus up to your work (bus top at Alois-Link-Platz). You really should make sure that it's including oven/stove, fridge and so, 'cause I don't think that's neccesarily inlcluded in the concept of kitchen furniture.
You should of course be aware that you can try and sell the kitchen to the next renters when you move, or try and take it with you, but a kitchen in the hand is in the end more than money given away for good to a Makler.

Make sure that you have a clear contract. Do you have to renovate before you move in or out? Do you have to find the next renters yourself when you move out?

If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to pay a bit more to have found a nice flat that is close to shopping and public transportation to work.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask. You can also send me e-mail if you want.

Sooooo... ... it seems I have been offered a job ! ! !

I saw there was a message on my mobile saying that i should check my voice mail, and the very nice guy from the recruiting agency had called to let me know that the company wants me to work for them.

Now I just have to wait all weekend to get to learn more about details like when I can start and how much money they are paying me and so forth. It's going to be a looong weekend.

I had my first day at work today. It was nice to get to do something new, but it's going to be hard getting used to working 8 hours and then 1 hour transportation in each end.

I had my Dutch exam yesterday, and I should get the results by email tomorrow or maybe the beginning of next week.

Anders is coming home from being two weeks in California (working), and Monday we are going to a Youssou N'dour concert in Amsterdam.

Next weekend we get to visit Hans.

This is a very exciting start to the Spring!

(If only the weather would be warmer and less snowy/rainy)
