Fortunately they didn't do a lot of real damage except the broken window. It seems that double doors are relatively easy to kick out without damaging the lock too much.

A girl I know, said I have a car. I asked her where my "car" is! She claims she was watching me. She lives in a different house than me. She's a pathological liar! Last year, an older man asked her to spell the word "college", she spelled it with one "l" "colege". What's colege?? She says she's smart and I'm stupid! A smart person would not spell college with one "l"! A stupid one would! I bet my IQ is higher than hers! One time, bossy girl was holding a dinner plate, (supposed to come forward to get it) the "smart" girl just stood there. "Duuuhh"! You're to get the plate!! Not stand there stupidly!!😒😒

Yes, Ginny. I don't know exactly what catalytic converters do, just that cars starting at a certain age all have them. Apparently there is some tiny amount of a very expensive "mineral" in each one and that is what thieves are after. I just today so a local news article saying that 10 of these things were stolen off school buses parked for the summer. It does seem like there is not enough care/surveillance, especially of buses. Replacing those converters will have to be paid for somehow. Even if insurance covers it that could mean a future hike in insurance rate.

Got good/excellent news! I don't need to have to go to the ED of my favorite hospital any more for a long time, if ever again concerning barrier leakage! Just got supplies from Liberator Medical! 6 boxes of barriers and 6 boxes of bags!! Does happy dance! The next time I might need to go to the hospital is probably when I have my reversal!

That is wonderful news BD.

We have a house next door that has been sitting empty for several years. We suspect it had water pipes freeze (water running out the back of the house was a clue about the pipes as was a crew from the town turning the main supply in the street off) when the furnace blew out in a storm, windows open for almost 2 years and somebody bought it "as is". We chatted with the new owner and she plans on moving in and doing a complete reno. I wish her well but can't help but wonder how she'll manage if indeed the pipes have burst. I can't wait as the mice have moved in and are starting to visit us. Eldest was at his desk and a mouse came right on it and was eyeing his chips. All I heard was "you're a ballsy little bastard aren't you" as his only comment before telling us. We got some very good plastic traps and had him within 20 minutes. He got a nice burial under a fruit tree in my garden.

Wow, Mausey! I wish that person luck with the house. We did a "down to the studs" reno on our old previous house. However, we were not living in it and it sounds like your new neighbor plans to to live there during the reno!

When you say chips do you mean what we would call French fries or potato chips? I always find that confusing! That was one precocious mouse. I think I've mentioned that we have tiny "live" traps and take them across the main road and about a mile down a wooded road before letting them go. Last one we did that my husband set the trap down, gave it a nudge, the mouse ran out, looked around and ran right back into the trap. I guess the woods did not look like inside our attic! It finally came out and ran off.

I put them in my closet! After I use up the three I got from the hospital ED July 6, gonna start on the first of the new supplies! Now I don't need to worry about having to go to the ED because of a leaking barrier. And the nurses won't have to deal with my leaking barriers! I don't have to try to get a ride to or from the hospital!!

Catalytic converters trap and burn some of the emissions in the exhaust by heating the interior elements of the cat. OEM (original equipment) cats usually contain platinum. Platinum is worth more per Troy ounce than gold. Cheaper replacements usually use ceramics instead of platinum. But salvage value of the platinum in a cat is worth the risk of being caught, to some. But in places around the country, if caught in the act, a thief is really lucky if he's turned over to the law. For instance, there's the old joke is that in Texas, "He just needed killin'" is still a viable defense in court. Here in my part of the state (not Texas, BTW), with thousands of acres of National Forest around, there's a good chance that a body might never be found. An excellent theft deterrent, no?

A man I worked with at the prison committed suicide. He hung himself in the woods, not that far from his home. Over 2 years later, a hunter first stumbled across his locked van, then found then found his skull and part of the spine hanging from a tree limb. Everything else was probably carried off by anumals. He was identified through dental records, of course. Knowing that, imagine if someone had actually not wanted a body to be found.

I think most auto insurance offers coverage for a stolen vehicle, but usually not for stolen parts. Vandalism coverage, maybe? "Your car's warranty is about to expire. We're offering an extended warranty." LOL

I don't understand some people! One person says, "leave the door open so the house can get cool", (floor fan in the room) then someone else says, " close the door, the room needs to stay cool. "

We have a "house" phone (tied to security system) as well as cell phones. In the past couple months when the house phone rings I pick it up and say nothing. 95% of the time it is scam calls (occasionally it might be the pharmacy about a prescription). By saying nothing instead of "hello" it does not trigger the computer to transfer to a call center where they try to scam you. I am finding my method has cut WAY down on the number of these calls. When we do get them now it just hangs up in about 20 seconds. We do NOT have caller ID on the house phone. Yes, I could always let it go to the answering machine but we have had a few friends who did that and there is nothing more annoying than calling someone, your call goes to the answering machine and half way through you blundering through leaving a message they pick up because they were "screening" their calls.

Any Illinois members? Apparently someone from there won the lottery. Wasn't me. First of all, I don't live there. Second, I don't spend money on lottery. The expression "you can't win if you don't play" also works as "you don't lose if you don't play!" My state has tons of lotteries and 2 huge casinos. Lots of that money was supposed to go into the state education budget. That's how they got it approved in the first place. Very little goes to education, not sure where the rest goes.

I'm in Illinois but I don't play the lottery either so I didn't win it. Whoever it is will probably get about 500 million after taxes and such if they chose the cash option. I think I could get by on that.

I looked it up. 23% of the lottery money in my state goes to education. I guess that is better than nothing?!

I was thinking more about this. Let's say (conservatively) someone spends $10 a week on the lottery and over the years they never win. In a year that is about $500 dollars. In ten years that comes to $5,000. That is a lot of money wasted. Put in an IRA, CD, or reasonable stocks you would not only have that money still but at least some amount of interest.

I worked for years with a woman who was about 8 years older than me. She went to the casino almost every weekend. By Friday she'd be dancing around the room singing "I'm going to the casino!" Like a child going to a favorite amusement park. Yes, I think she was addicted. I am 70 and I would guess she is still working because her pay is her "casino money." Very sad! She's fortunate her husband is retired with a good pension to pay their bills.

Finished the Nightmare Before Christmas "Skellington Pumpkin Ale" cross stitch picture. It took about 7 months of hours every day. I don't have a way to show it here but the company is "Moohue Cross Stitch" so a Google search for that plus the picture title should show it. This is for our daughter for Christmas. Nightmare is one of her favorite movies.

It's a tricky one. There needs to be some ability to buy second hand ones from salvage as they can and do fail, and OEM replacements often cost $2000+, which a lot of people simply can't afford. So paying $500 or so for one from a salvage dealer is the solution.

It's started to become a big problem over here now as well, especially with the explosion in popularity of SUVs which with the higher ground clearance make it far easier to get at. Response from police has predictably been "it's the responsibility of the owner to secure the vehicle." Precisely how you secure that against someone with a cordless angle grinder I have no idea...it takes less than a minute for someone with the right tools to swipe a cat.

Though to be honest the response doesn't surprise me, they won't even investigate actual car theft here now, even if you have crystal clear video footage of the theft...they just give you a crime reference number to tell your insurance company and leave it at that.

Was wondering why on earth someone would have targeted school buses as it's only the cats on petrol engines vehicles which are worth anything (the diesel ones don't contain anything of value), before reminding myself that not all big vehicles over there are diesel powered.

Zelandeth. I am not sure but I believe the school buses mentioned are the much smaller (maybe half the size) buses that are also used and could perhaps run on petrol, not diesel.

So, what you are saying is someone could have their converter stolen, go to a scrap dealer where the thief "off loaded" it and buy back their own converter?! I had always thought these converters were being stolen so the platinum inside could be removed? Once that is done I would assume the thing is useless and would just be melted down. Do scrap places resell these things or can they make more money on the platinum?

Police here will loan people an engraver to put their name and other info on their tools, bikes, catalytic converters etc so if they are stolen they can be tracked. The converters are a special case as scrap dealers are now on the look out for the engravings and ask for ID and can get into a lot of trouble if they purchase without checking. I have no idea about buying a second hand one or what the rules are there.

I didn't win either. I did buy 1 ticket. I figure if I'm meant to win, all I need is 1 ticket. If I'm not meant to win the it won't matter if I buy a million tickets. I'll still lose.

One ticket seems like a good choice. We were saying here that if we ever won (which would necessitate BUYING tickets) we would rather win a million than a huge sum. After taxes I suppose you end up with half of that, still a decent sum. Winning a billion? Imagine all the "relatives" that would hound you, AND the charities with their hands out? No thanks.

Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura from Star Trek, has died. I was fortunate to see her and most of the original cast at several Conventions in NYC in the mid 1970's. She and James Doohan (Scottie) would occasionally sing wonderful duets during some of their panels. Both gone now.

Good to read, samething here, my dad covers our cell bill, but I get the notifications , told him I was getting hits from our goof up that the ATT folks made, I told him we had a problem, he had to have someone else phone to fix it, this moring, now I and him well have to look out for the pamement later on this month.

PS Thanks folks for the information /feedback here I well have to put up with having the other party hang up for me and ask for a little more aid, if I needed . Having a netwework that isn't working with a phone that is going to cost me as much as a new one, is worth the wait, to see if they get there act, together, glad I got my USB keyboard, running so my keys are not sticking, now I hope my reading keys are working as well, then I well be less stressed out, Trying to read posts all the way, when they sound like atape trying to rewind or fafastfoward , wwith out being in play, like I uuse to do, is very frustrating, Not bbeing able to even finish a post reading/typing has been why I haven't been on line, working out some ideas for a ideas tool. Also looking for a few things to send out too, more later.
