One of the vendors at PulpFest had hundreds of science fiction and fantasy digests for sale. I dug through looking for the issue of Astounding with the story “The Cold Equations.” I found that, but I also found the Oct. 1967 Analog with “Weyr Search” on the cover! (That was not in the two dollar box, but the price was good.)
I can’t post the photo of my copy, but I have to ask… Does anyone think the dragon on the cover looks odd? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...36-weyr-search |

Well if I recall the same person, did the one for a different SF work Ducn , I recall seeing a posted copy some place, and a few folks have ttalked about the stories that became Dragonflight, in Dragonwriter, by the way, I would post who but its also a good reread, but as folks know I am verry bad at spelling names, I don';t know if its posted some place on this site or not, but the ful audio is from Brillian Audio, and the book is from I think Smathmouth, I know the audio much better then the print, but their is a very nnice cover image for the book, a different one a writer o works in their, I am just saying, here, that , that while I don't have that one I do have a second hand copy of the second story, in with Elizabeth Moon group of short stories, I think, I can';t tell but, I loan it to someone to read I didn't hear if she like the book or not, I think she did,. Note, I have a very busy day in real life, and my mind is jumbling thinks together, so I am very sorry thaqt I am rambling a bit, I also thank you for the reminder with Goodread for I well have to see if I can change thaqwt code too. I shall have to put on my wants list when I get my help, partly I am not thinking so slowly at the moment.

They do seem odd! It's the neck length perhaps; looks more like a dinosaur with wings. Illustrations in the Analog magasines for Weyr Search (Oct 1967) and Dragonrider (Dec 1967 and Jan 1968) were done by John Schoenherr. There's a beautiful illustration of Mnementh holding Lessa captured between his claws as a "cage". Anne was really pleased with the results: I understand that she imagined her dragons with more of a horses head than a lizard. We all have our own thoughts on how the Pern dragons would look. Personally it's the Michael Whelan images that take my fancy. However, Gigi's book Dragon's Code has the ultimate Pern dragon that is in my mind. Chris Koehler's cover illustration : maybe increase the overall size and add a suitable seating arrangement with the neck ridges : perfect!
