Default Old Dragonsong/singer audiobook - with music

Hi all, new member here! Decided to read through my Pern collection again, which I haven't done in probably 5 years. I got to Dragonsong and remembered that when I was a kid, I would check out a tape or maybe tapes from the library that told the stories of Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, but with a woman singing many of the songs! That's why I remembered it, because when I read the lyrics, the melodies popped into my head.

I've been trying to find it again and am not having any luck. Every search I do turns up the more recent audiobook that's 7+ hours long. What I listened to when I was a kid can't have been more than a couple hours long, and it covered both books.

Any idea what I'm remembering? I would have listened to it in the late 80's or early 90's.

Thanks in advance!

I'm going to re-up this one because I still can't find this. I remember the existence of this recording so well because I can still sing a few of the songs (which were all based on the lyrics found at the beginning of chapters). I cannot find this via googling at all, I just get entries for the normal audiobooks over 5 cassettes.

Anybody recall this?

There was a CD called Masterharper of Pern by Tanya Opland and Mike Freeman, with accompaniment on folk instruments.

As you said, the songs were all based on the lyrics found at the beginning of chapters in Dragonsong and Dragonsinger. There's also a book with the music and words of all the songs.

That's a good thought, but it isn't what I remember. 1998 is too late, it was probably the late 80's or early 90s. It was on a cassette or maybe even record, definitely not a CD. The songs were pretty short - just a single verse or so, and they were interspersed among a narration of the books themselves (if I recall correctly, both Dragonsong and Dragonsinger). But I'm pretty sure it was an abridged version of the stories because I'm sure it wasn't a ton of cassettes or records.

It's so frustrating because I can remember so many of the songs, haha. I remember the melodies for Black, Blacker Blackest, Gather Day, Fire Lizard, Drummer Beat Piper Blow, Running Song...

I've never seen it, but there was a cassette of filk (fan-created folk songs) that was partially or fully about Pern. I think it might have been called Storyteller. My bibliographic sources that would say more are unfortunately all packed. I'll have to see if I can get Becky/Coelura to poke her head in here, she's a prime collector and even created her own biblio source for McCaffrey collectors.
