Hey, it's been a while. I'm not dead, just working underground.
![]() I'm wondering if anyone out there remembers where in the series it mentions any volcano and hopefully hints at where it's located. Pages not necessary but at least the book and what you remember from reading would help me a ton! TY in advance to anyone who has feedback. |

There are numerous references to volcanos including the extinct ones in the North where the Weyrs are located. The active ones are in the South: several volcanic islands in the island chain north of Cove Hold (several books), another island-based one off the coast about half-way between Cove Hold and Southern Hold (Dragondrums and others), and Mount Garben above Landing (Dragonsdawn and others).

Not all the northern volcanoes are dormant
F'nor's thoughts on mountains and noxious gases before jumping to the Red Star in DQ: Over the plains of Igen where the noxious vapors rose from the yellow mountains you could suffocate with the odor and the stuff in your lungs. Different gases issued from the young fire mountains that had risen in the shallow western seas to spout flame and boiling rock into the water. IIRC, Tillek has a smoking mountain, and all those volcanic black diamonds on Ista didn't come from nowhere... |

Thanks for the correction -- I'd forgotten about that part.

There was also Mount Picchu, very close to Garben. At first they thought Picchu would be the one to erupt.
A volcano called Young Mountain is mentioned a few times, but I don't know where it is, except possibly in one of the Island chains. Eriflor. |

Piemur also mention seeing a volcano being born as he was traveling from Southern to the Cove. IIRC, in TWD, he pointed out the general location on the map found in the shuttle that was dug up at Landing.

Is it on the way to the Cove? I thought that volcano was in the west; where Seminole and Key Largo stakes (Holds as of Skies of Pern) were set up. It's marked in the Atlas as "Piemur's Volcano".
Off the top of my head, there's a volcano along the south coast of Tillek, and the small round island south of Ista is a volcano. |

There is also one out in the sea, west of Landing in Dragonsdawn

Even though its kind of old, I looked in my Atlas of Pern by Karen Wynn Fonstad. I noticed an island one south of Ista Weyr and another south of Tillek Hold. I aslo think there are two North east of Ruatha Hold (Breast Pass), maybe they are mountains.
