Apologies that this highlight is late - I've been busy prepping for McCaffrey Quest and completely forgot about it!
To the best of my knowledge, only one Pern calendar has ever been produced, and that was for 1985. This oversized spiral-bound calendar was published by Mayfair Games Inc (the same company which produced a Pern boardgame), retailed for $8.95, and featured scenes from the Dragonriders of Pern trilogy (Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon) by Tim Hildebrandt. There are 14 total illustrations (12 months plus front and back cover). The calendar pages measure 9x18 inches, with monthly images approximately 8x12 inches (remaining space for calendar dates). ![]() Images of all of the interior illustrations can be found on Francois's La Page de Pern site. Although the reptilian illustrations in the calendar do not match well to Anne's descriptions of Pernese dragons, the calendar is now a very collectable item which is hard to find. Current online prices are $35-40. I found just two copies currently for sale online: http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/Book...PL?bi=85232193 http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/Book...L?bi=156677472

So, anyone here own a copy of the calendar? Covet a copy of your own? Have no interest whatsoever?
I managed to find a copy on ebay several years ago. Personally, I find the dragons rather ugly and have other nits to pick over details that don't match the books well. The dragonriders are shown using saddles on their dragons. Ruatha is shown as a spaceship-shaped tower looming over the surrounding rocks rather than being carved into rock. And I just have to laugh at F'lar's fight scene with Fax (April) where he's wearing a fierce grimace and raising his fists into the air! Which picture do you find most intesting/humorous/whatever, and why?

I've seen some of the pictures from this calendar before, but they're not spectacular. I thought that there was another calendar though
![]() I remember when I went to Aussie for a holiday in January of 2002, I was out with Karl and we saw a calendar, and Hishin asked us to buy it for her, I didn't have enough money to get it myself, and I can't really remember what it looks like, I'll have to ask Karl, maybe it was some other thing... ![]() |

I have it. Shoot. If I had known they were so much, I would have gotten the other two for cheap when I had a chance.
I don't mind picking up copies of stuff for other people. I like the ones of the dragons in flight the best. I like the firelizards with Jaxom and Sharra. I think I like the ones where the dragons are seen from a distance, in flight the best. Over all, the dragon do not look as good as they could, but I tend to see this as a Pern thing, and so, I have it. |

Jax - could it possibly have been a Michael Whelan calendar with one of Anne's cover art pics in it? Whelan does do a calendar every year, so this would seem a good explanation...

Thank you Cheryl, I may ask it depends on the luck that my husband has. He is pretty good at finding things.

Jube, I found one some time in January, and it was the only one that I have seen sence, but then again I haven't been looking for it anymore. Try abebooks.com, that is where I found mine, if I remember rightly. It was from a small book store in Ohio, I didn't keep the address since they said it was the only one that they had. Sorry I hope that you find one for yourself soon, it is a lovely piece to have. Even if the Dragons are somewhat UGLY !! Tim Hildebrant, did a beautiful job on it, his paintings are fantastic.
