Default Way forward?

The number of active users of this forum is creeping back up after hovering in the teens for months.

But, there's very little activity to keep them here. So, to start off a discussion:

Was Anne right to invite other authors to collaborate in some books?

I'd say yes. It's much easier to clarify your ideas when you can bounce them off someone else. But I've got a few questions of my own. Like, what was the nature of that collaboration and how much contact was there between the two authors. And, did the collaborations help the careers of the other authors? It could be a great type of apprenticeship scheme if it worked well.

In some cases it was done to promote writers Annie thought "Worthy". Some of them acknowledge that. Where I think it then went astray was, for example, Stephen Michael Stirling who helped her write The City Who Fought, and then wrote The Ship Avenged on his own. He tends to be a far darker writer and, like most male authors, tends to be technology-led rather than character-led like Annie.

I haven't had time to read the new Dragonriders stuff from Todd and GiGi, but it's on my list.

What I would like to do is sit down and bookend the Pegasus/Tower series, but I lack the writing skill to even attempt it, and without an official "blessing" it'd be little more than speculative fan-fiction.

To me that's the greatest loss of all, Dragonriders was expansive enough that a new author could pick up somewhere and continue the concept. Tower And Hive/Pegasus can't continue in an official capacity and that makes me sad.

Absolutely ! This is just my humble opinion, but I think All Writers get to a point where they are putting words to paper to appease publishers requirements. If they don't get works to publish, they don't make money, so pressure is put on the Writers, Which can lead to inferior product. Anne, by inviting other Writers to work with her on some projects, I think, kept her writing more interesting. Perhaps even giving her ideas without them knowing, how to make her works even more appealing to her readers.
