Re: Domick and Menolly

Why does Menolly "need" to be hooked up with anyone? She's her own woman, focusing on her career. Plus, she already has 10 firelizards to take care of. I thought Sebell was boring, and the method...

Re: Dragonsong: An Alternate Tune (Fiction)

I've read this story a few times now, and it's still amazing! Some people might have criticized that Menolly getting a dragon -- Ruth/Ruath especially -- would make her a Mary Sue, but considering...

Re: Do you recall a Memori while reading any of DORP Books?ied

I wasn't exactly reading any of the books at the time, but this memory is Pern-related and sticks with me.

I had just discovered Dragonflight as a young teenager (like 13, 14) and I was HOOKED...

Re: Menolly: Dragonrider

I've read a couple fanfics where Menolly became a dragonrider. My favourite was one where she ended up Impressing a (Harper) blue dragon, and it's implied she was going to train to be a Weyrsinger. ...

Re: Kylara, a Bad girl or just misunderstood?

What's the title of your story, Brenda? The link isn't working for me. Thanks

Re: Pick a Play

As an English Major, and such a Shakespeare fan that I named my son "Arden", I can think of a couple plays that could translate well to Pern.

Lord Holder Lear -- after foolishly trying to divide...

Re: Feedback for "Unwanted Son"

I know it's been a long while, but I do hope you go back to this fic someday. Ardon's name is very close to my own, RL son's name, so I'm kind of invested in the little guy. I hope he will...

Re: Pern: Out of Place

Beautiful little story. I really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing! (and no, I don't care if it was posted 12 years ago :P )

Re: AU: What would YOU change?

After the Oldtimers come forward, I would have the Southern Weyr project abandoned, and Kylara be tranferred for either Fort or Telgar Weyrs as a junior under Mardra or Bedella. I can imagine Mardra...

Re: What Fire Lizard would you impress?

I had the idea for an OC based off my World of Warcraft main. Cerah, an Orc Hunter, with two of her loyal pets being Daggoth, a blue jormungar ice worm from Northrend, and Tiny, a, well, tiny green...

Re: what would you bring to pern

The only really appealing thing about Pern is being a dragonrider, and I'm too old for that to be a possibility now. It would suck to be a Holder, women's rights are centuries behind, the crafts...

Re: Spliced of a differnt topic, Unwritten Threads Within the Books, Thoughts?

I would assume that if any dragon died and was unable to go between themselves before doing so, either the Weyrleader or another rider (or maybe a couple, since I doubt one bronze could lift a Queen)...

Re: Are Dragons Mesotherms / Photosynthetic? How much do they eat?

There was one fanfic series, "Dragonchoice", that theorized that going Between actually used a lot less energy than flying straight. This becomes very important in the last fic of the trilogy, where...

Would it be possible to Impress a Dragon *and* be a Wher-handler?

There are plenty of dragonriders who Impress fire lizards, but I can't think of a single instance in canon where somebody has been able to have a dragon and wher at the same time. The closest is...

Re: If You Were to Impress...

I hate to sound pretensious, but I think Gold really would suit my personality best. I love kids (especially my sweet little boy), and I'm great at organization, especially pertaining to records. ...

Re: Corana

There's a lovely fanfic about Corana, which looks at her life post-Jaxom, where she actually takes over leadership of her minor hold, and raises her Fire Lizard.

Re: Why don't Golds and their riders train with the other Weyrlings?

"Dragonflight" is the exception, however, and even then, Lessa muses to herself that she found it strange that she didn't train with the other weyrlings.

I'm wondering if future junior...

IF any dragon *could* survive the death of their rider, what would happen?

I had this idea for a fanfic, and just wanted to run it by the other fans out there.

9th pass, post SoP. Jaxom ends up badly threadscored. I know he usually doesn't take a very active role in...

Re: Are Dragons Mesotherms / Photosynthetic? How much do they eat?

I very much doubt that Pernese Dragons are warm-blooded in the same way that mammals are on Earth. They would likely be closer to birds and dinosaurs, and may have used a system of thermoregulation...

Re: Sand tables, blackboards/slate, and wax

I'm very surprised that so many in this thread are unfamiliar with school slates. *I* remember using them in kindergarten, and that was only in the 80s for me! They're still commonly sold for kids...

Re: Wherry, wherefore art thou wherry

I figured that "wherry" was just the generic name for any native, birdlike animal on Pern, like how "bird" can refer to anything with feathers, from hummingbirds to ostriches.

There could be...

Re: Favourite Weyr/What Weyr would you live in?

I'm voting for High Reaches. I'm Canadian, and we take it as a point of pride how we deal with the cold. Benden's probably similar to actual Ontario weather, but I wouldn't want to deal with Benden...

Re: Favorite Character?

I picked Mirrim, because she was the rider I was the most interested in, yet she never got a novel, or even a short story, from her point of view. I mean, Menolly's a great character and I love her,...

Why don't Golds and their riders train with the other Weyrlings?

Not much is shown in any of the canon books about Weyrling training whatsoever (usually they just show nervous candidates, then the short story ends or the novel timeskips after they Impress), but it...

Re: Drudges!

The idea that drudges are inherently "lazy" or too stupid to do any other work stinks of classism. There are plenty of people in today's society that work the kinds of service jobs that Anne...

Re: In what order should I introduce the books to a pern newbie?

The topic of Pern has come up a couple times on Zelda Universe in the book thread (another board I frequent), and I personally recommend starting with "Dragonflight" if you're more inclined towards...

What do you suppose happened to the Wher "crafthall" after Todd's books?

Hi! I'm new here, and I'm happy to find a message board dealing with one of my favourite book series!

Anyway, I've been thinking about Whers and had a few questions. Please forgive me if this...
