You must be able to find 35 mm DSLR cameras for a few dollars, there must be millions around that nobody uses anymore!

Re: What is happening

I had one, a Canon I think. I'll ask Jeff if it's still around here.

Tomorrow is Easter. After our last fiasco church experience we haven't been in about 20 years. However, I am constantly thinking and revising what I believe. I just don't get sucked in to church politics any more. I don't know what life is like for ordinary members in a catholic church but it can be just like a middle school gossip/back biting fest in some protestant ones- at least those we were "lucky" enough to go to.

We use to go to a Unity church. We liked it, very liberal. Not sure why we quit going.

Re: What is happening

It was much nicer out this morning than it is now. I don't believe the thermometer, it is damp and cold.

One of our two old cats had to go to the vet to have her teeth cleaned last week. She also had two teeth pulled. Cat dental work is just as expensive as people! :faint2: She's doing good, back to eating normally. It's a good thing we love them!

I don't pay much attention to sports but my son graduated from Syracuse, which is in the basketball "Final Four" tournament. I won't bother to watch the game but I know he'll enjoy it. Anyone else watching March Madness?

I saw on the news just now there was a terrible chain reaction of accidents on a highway in Virginia/North Carolina, likely caused by bad weather and fog. :(

Good luck finding a camera for her.

We are plodding forward.

Happy birthday to Anne. You are sorely missed! :(

Yes Anne well be missed, and I found another Anne McCaffrey fan, one of the staff that works with us.

Re: What is happening

I was thinking about all the books Anne wrote and how there is quite a diversity in the subjects. She was truly a prolific writer with a great imagination. As much as I enjoy her series, it is her "one of" books that I think are my favorites. Of those, my top is No One Noticed The Cat, but I also like her non-SF - The Lady, Black Horses For The King, etc. Another favorite is The Coelurra (spelling?). Those are the ones I am keeping and will read again at some point.

Tonight is the musical at the middle school where my daughter's boyfriend teaches chorus. He's also directing the musical. They chose to do a medley of songs and dance from the early 1900's to today, rather than a specific musical. The kids wrote the dialogue to go between each piece. Mike says they are doing a good job and we'll enjoy it. They are doing it "dinner theater" style in the cafeteria - the audience will sit at tables around the edge with the show in the middle. Kids are going to come around selling lemonade and popcorn. Looking forward to a fun show and seeing what songs they picked.

That sounds like a blast, Cilla! Let us know what songs they do!

Made it through another week... summer seems far away. This is the first year since I began teaching that I'm holding out for summer vacation and its not my students its the adults I work with. The good news is the two that are the "headaches" will be gone by summer if not fall which is why I'm where I'm at.

Re: What is happening

Last night's musical was fun. There were a few songs (mostly duets) where you cringed a bit, but overall very well done. Mike says it was a lot of work and he's proud of the kids, that's what matters. I did make a list of a few songs, some I'm not sure I have the right title. Here we go:

ELVIS - Blue Suede Shoes

My Girl

Stop In The Name of Love

BEACH BOYS - I Get Around

BEATLES - She Loves You; Help

ELTON JOHN - When You're In the World (?)

JAMES TAYLOR - You've Got a Friend

Don't Stop Believing

I Will Survive

MICHAEL JACKSON - Man In the Mirror

--------------------------

There were more but I forgot to write down until part way through. The families seemed to enjoy it, having it in the cafeteria made it very relaxed, some families brought along pizza and other dinner food so it really was a "dinner theater" night!

Re: What is happening

Sounds you had a great night out, Cilla, despite a note missed here and there. And Mike's right, it's effort and pleasure the kids need to put into and and have :-)

Sounds like everyone is having fun and doing well.
I have been babysitting the 3 year old. He goes home tomorrow. Aries, the goat, decided to play top goat and got my hand up againest his house, again. I really wish I would remember to take the squirt bottle out with me.

Re: What is happening

We use a squirt bottle (water only) on our kittens, teaching them to stay out from behind the tv. It seems to be pretty effective. The little monsters chew on everything, including electric cords if they can. One of them gnawed on a lamp cord and got a tiny shock. That lamp has been banished to the basement, in need of a new cord. I knew puppies chewed, I don't think I've ever seen kittens chew like this! Of course, it's been many years since we've had kittens, I may have forgotten.

I finished another bracelet today. It's an 8 inch, European 4-in-1 weave in silver & gold plated rings.

Here's a detail shot of the weave and clasp.

I've started a thread over in the Collector's Marketplace with prices on the various pieces.

My sister's kitten chews everything. He chewed the TV remote once!

mawra Apr 8 2013 07:14 PM

Re: What is happening

I think with kitten is not so much as chew as playing with the cord and biting it while "killing" it.

Kibby's dog chewed on a cord ONCE. She was upstairs sleeping with Kibby when Jazzy bit the cord and started hollering. Kibby started screaming. I was sleeping also up stairs and got the power cord turned off. I did not know Hubby could get up the stairs that quick. Luckily Jazzy was only dazed. She has not gone near a cord sence then.

Priscilla Apr 10 2013 11:48 AM

Re: What is happening

Won't be making the same "mistake" twice. :notme:

Mawra, you are probably right. I'll bet they are trying to kill the string/electric cord/toy. One of our kittens (the female) is very brave. Her brother is just the opposite. I tell him he is my cowardly lion and needs to ask the wizard for some courage!

My son and his girlfriend are both sick with coughs and have been to their doctors and got medicine. It is busy season for both their jobs and it did not help that Mar. 23 they went to a very long concert in NYC with friends.

Kibby has speech and photo competition tomorrow. For the photo she is entering the one titled Fear in the Exhibit Hall. Not much else going on.

Mine & Kibby's computer is at the computer Dr. It will be May before we have the 75 dollars it will take to fix them. Not sure when I will be on again.

Good luck to Kibby in the competitions!

Watching the tragedy in Boston. Terrible.

AnnMarie Apr 16 2013 06:47 AM

Re: What is happening

What happened in Boston was terrible. What made it worse, IMO, is the NYPOST posting misinformation before the Boston PD were even sure about the nature of the explosions.

Priscilla Apr 16 2013 07:24 AM

Re: What is happening

Oh dear! We had CBS and CNN on the tv and I had the BBC site up on my tablet. I was surprised how some reporters were more reasonable in calling it explosions while other immediately called them bombs. Yes, it has turned out to be bombs, but it would seem that good reporting means not jumping to conclusions. I liked what the president had to say. I sure hope they catch who did it and put them away with no chance of parole.

mawra Apr 16 2013 11:12 AM

Re: What is happening

I hope no one else dies and the ones injured make quick recoveries. The news did say that there were several people that will most likely loose limbs.

Kibby got a blue ribbon in photography and a red in speaking. She has decided that next year she will do a speach she can write & practice before giving it. There were a few problems with the dictrict speech useing different rules as county. It was a new catagory and I don't think the rules were made clear to everyone.

Hans Apr 16 2013 12:31 PM

Re: What is happening

Maw, what do the ribbons signify, what is the difference?

Re: What is happening

Now a fertilizer plant in Texas has exploded. Many, many injured and some dead though it is too early to know how many. My thoughts are with them all.

In slightly better news they have made an arrest in the Ricin laced letters. I hope it is the right person and if so that he gets the maximum sentence.

Re: What is happening

I'm grateful that they caught their suspect in Watertown earlier tonight, and the other suspect was killed in a shootout.

My aunt lives a few blocks away from where they caught the guy which was just outside the perimeter they had originally set from what I'd heard on the news reports. My aunt posted on Facebook about seeing the police officers walking around, and looking in the dumpsters near her house during the day.

It was kind of eerie watching the coverage on NECN (New England Cable News). At one point they had the cameras on a diner where we often have at least one meal when I visit my aunt. That diner is within walking distance of my aunt's house, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

Re: What is happening

I do not know anyone who was in Boston but my kids do. I'm also glad that they captured the second person.

Our son is home for the day to get a haircut. He is an accountant and says he worked 72 hours last week and will most likely put in an 8 hour day tomorrow. It's a lot but he is young and learning a great deal. He actually enjoys what he does, can't ask for much more than that, I guess. While he's home he'll change the tires on his car from snows to their summer tires - finally!

What did you think of Les Mis?

I really enjoyed it, and I am very critical with musicals because I love them so much.

I haven't seen The Hobbit, yet. I think they're supposed to release an extended version like the did with the other three, so we'll probably wait for that to be released before anyone buys it.

Priscilla Apr 22 2013 09:49 PM

Re: What is happening

I haven't watched Les Mis or Lincoln yet. I have to be in a movie mood and last week was so awful in the news I didn't feel like it. I probably will watch soon. My daughter and her boyfriend really liked it. He is a graduate of Western Connecticut's music education program and currently teaches chorus at a middle school. I trust their opinion. :D

Spring has finally sprung here.

Today I'm getting lots of 503 service temporarily overloaded errors. Can't get to half of my usual websites.

Today I discovered a small shop in town tucked away on a side street that does picture and needlecraft framing! I went home and got a picture I did for Jenn quite a number of years ago. It is an underwater scene with dolphins and brightly colored fish and coral. The woman said she can have it ready for Jenn's birthday at the end of May. I'm very happy to find a place that does this. The shop where I had a picture framed for Anneli went out of business several years ago and I now have 3 or 4 pictures needing to be framed. It is not cheap, but the pictures aren't being enjoyed closed away in the trunk at the foot of our bed. :erm:

It goes by score. Blue is for scores of 90-100, red is awarded for scores between 80-75, white is for anything below 75. Purple is for the best in class.

Kibby would have gotten a blue except her time was way off and she lost 10 points.

What was it like to be in the Netherlands at the time of Queen Beatrix abdication in favor of her son, Hans? Were there parades, excitement, or was it very low key? I remember when Beatrix became queen as it was close to the time when Jeff and I were married.

That's great, and I bet its not cheap. My neighbour specialises in framing hand crafts like this and I know the backing is padded specially and it's quite a tricky time consuming job to make them look nice. Were you able to chose the framing yourself? Can we see pics of the finished job
