Re: What is happening
Dena: I think it's just that I need a lot more time to go over what I've read about him and his work. Some of what he says is stuff I've already worked out for myself. I can see where he's going (I think) but I'm a 'doubting Thomas' by inclination and need to study him.
I'll do so when I'm not up to my eyeballs in stuff for uni. |
Re: What is happening
I ended up only taking Kibby. They think she broke a bone near her thumb, but when that bone is broke it does not show up on X-rays for 7-10 days. She is still a LOT of pain, but did go to work. Not sure what she can do since she can not use her left hand. (She is left handed)
Madison's party went well, we did not stay long. Kibby was not up to it. |
Re: What is happening
Today is election day here in the states. I hope everyone who is eligible to do so will vote! I walked the 1/4 or so mile down the street to the school where our local voting occurs. It's a nice day and a pleasant walk.
I'm sorry about Kibby's hand. Jeff, Jenn & I are all left handed. Left handers - the only ones in their "right" minds! |
Re: What is happening
Mom was left handed as well, until she had her stroke and can not longer move her left hand. Now I get to commit forgery several times a day, most days.

Re: What is happening
I've tried five times in the last ten or so minutes, but I'm getting a 'Server Not Found' on AMCF. Anyone know what's going on?
[Edit]NVM It's come back up - weird[/Edit] |

Re: What is happening
My best friend's dad, who is 100 years old, will be riding in the Veteran's Day parade in town in a Model T Ford. There will be signs on the side of the car giving his name, age and number of missions. I have my camera charged and will have my phone to get some pictures. I hope it's a nice day!

Re: What is happening
My niece is getting married Sat. I won't be able to make the wedding, I have to pick Kibby up from work at the same time the wedding is. We will be at the reception. Kibby had been scheduled off Sat, but it got switched to Thurs to give her hand more time to heal. Now she works 4:00 am until 2:00.
Most of her hand and wrist is better. Her thumb is worse. She says she can feel something moving around that shouldn't when she moves it and the whole thumb tingles. When she first hurt it only the tip tingled. She will be going back to Dr. on Thrus. I hope they can figure out what is wrong then. |
Re: What is happening
I hope everyone feels better now!!!
I spend the last week at my daughters. She had operation on the retina in her left eye, and because she wasn't allowed to lift anything or bend over, I stayed with her. |
Re: What is happening
Oh boy! The high school is putting on Les Miserables (les Mis) next Spring. They always do top quality performances. A few years ago they did Phantom of the Opera and it was as good as what we saw on Broadway! We go to the shows every year - Mike plays bass in the pit orchestra.
I really hope you get some conclusive news on Kibby's hand soon, Maw! Mara, it is great you were able to help your daughter out. |
Re: What is happening
Annelli! Going out tonight to the Chowder Pot with Jenn & Mike. I'll have a bowl of chowder in your honor!

Re: What is happening
Melissa is now a married woman. It was wonderful seeing her so happy and relaxed for a change. Seth was adorable in his white tux, the girls were beautiful in their dresses.
We did not stay at the reception long. Kibby was not in real good shape when I picked her up. Since her week of not using her hand was up they had her doing biscuits for four hours, before sending her to do something she could do. She was in a LOT of pain, on top of getting off the night before at 9:00 and having to be in at 4:00am. She was very tired. The thought of working tomorrow almost had her in tears, we went back to the E.D. They gave her a note for tomorrow and wants us to call a place that deals with workman's comp. They have orthopedics Dr. that will have a much better idea of what might be wrong and know the proper paper work that workmen's comp needs and how to word notes so it is not an exact day that she can go back to full use of her hand. I know she LOVES her job, she loves having money and everyone says she is a good worker, but no job is worth her doing permanent damage. |
Re: What is happening
In UK off at 21.00 and back on at 04.00 would be illegal! you have to have at least 8 straight hours off in 24.
|
Re: What is happening
No one cares how much sleep a fast food worker gets. I agree they should not schedule someone to work like that.
|
Re: What is happening
Poor Kibby, I'm glad you are there for her Mawra.
P'ter, it seems the UK is more humane to its workers. |
Re: What is happening
Gee! You mean there's something that the UK does better than the US? :D
|
Re: What is happening
Ha! That's all I'll say to that!
The Veteran's parade was very nice. Several fife and drum corps and the high school band provided the music to march to. My friend's dad was in an open car and I really think he was quite overwhelmed by the applause and cheers. It was brisk but not too cold and the sun cooperated. I hope they are able to diagnose what is wrong with Kibby's hand. It feels like it is taking a long time. :( |
Re: What is happening
I am hoping she has a good manager tomorrow. She is off Tues, hopefully I can get her into see a Dr. then.
Now Kibby has a sore throat. Poor kid can't catch a break. |

Re: What is happening
In my prison we can be made to work a double shift; 16 hours, off 8, then back again for another 8. Or 16. The trick is, off for 8 hours, not 8 hours sleep. I know people who drive at least 45 minutes to an hour each way. Take away that 1.5 to 2 hours travel, factor in eating, undressing & dressing, cleanup, etc., and that leaves you with maybe 4 hours to actually sleep, after working 16.

Thank you, Veterans!

Re: What is happening
You're welcome. :)
To all my brothers and sisters out there, veteran or active, any nation, anywhere: You are to be proud of your service, no matter what you did, or when you did it. You stepped up and were ready to serve your country in whatever capacity you could. All gave some. Some gave all. |

It was delicious and spending time with Jenn & Mike was fun. They are so busy, as are Fred and Eliza. Thanksgiving is coming and we'll be together then! I wish I could send you some chowder. I'm afraid it would not survive and Customs would probably have a "fit!"

Re: What is happening
Took Kibby to hand specialist this afternoon. She damaged the ligaments in her thumb, the best treatment is to make is she CAN NOT us it. The best way to do that is to cast it. Kibby now has a nice new tye dye cast on her left hand, and a note saying she can not use it until she gets it rechecked for work.
I hope this takes care of the problem. She has a big history project due first part of December. She has chosen to do midlevel siege weapons and is planning on making a castle and a couple of siege weapons. Not sure how well she can make them without using her dominate hand. |
Re: What is happening
I'm wishing Kibby the best and the rest of your family.
|
Re: What is happening
I hope it turns out allright Mawra!!
|
Re: What is happening
Thanks for the good wishes

Re: What is happening
Poor Kibby! At least with a cast on her work can't insist that there is "nothing" wrong with her! I hope she's able to figure out how to do her assignment!
Jeff bought a large snow blower today, it's being delivered Monday. We will still have the driveway plowed; this is more for the 6 feet or so directly in front of the garage, to keep the pile of snow at a manageable size at the bottom of our driveway and for those rare times when the plow guy is delayed due to a huge storm. Shoveling loses its charm after so many years. |

May everyone have a good week.
Last night, I learn how to play Texas hold-um and had a nice round of beginners luck. I stayed in the game till I lost to Joel at the end when it was the two of us. :D |
Re: What is happening
I am just not a game player. When the kids were little I would play with them but I did not enjoy it. It goes back to when I was a kid and one of my mother's sisters lived with us for a few years. Aunt Ruth loved games, mostly dominoes, parcheesi and croquet and she was VERY competitive (i.e. had to win) and almost always did win by a huge margin. My parents were too busy to play games so I was drafted at least several times a week. As a kid that gets old very fast. Much, much later when I would visit her in a nursing home and would play parcheesi with her I realized that she cheated and by then I was mature enough to let it go, but I still hate games to this day.

Re: What is happening
We play a lot of games. Board and card games. Hubby won't play poker with us. We play mostly for pennies and he says it not worth his time. He will bet much higher than any of us will. We are out to have fun with it. He takes poker seriously. He will play most any other game with us. Especially cold snowy days when we are all home together.
|
Re: What is happening
That's understandable, Priscilla. My dad and grandma played games with me. They never let me win, but they taught me strategy while playing so that when I did finally win, I knew I had accomplish it on my own which lead to a different feeling for games.
All games are for fun, Mawra, in my humble opinion. ;) |
Re: What is happening
It's when they cease to be games that they become trouble.
|
Re: What is happening
Kibby's cast, I love it, if you have to have one this is the one to get.
