Re: What is happening

No the framing wasn't cheap. It was $250 total and I paid half up front. The woman who is doing it was very nice and knowledgeable. She gave me a number of framing options and we came up with the best look. I will definitely post a picture when it gets done. How does what I am paying compare with what your neighbor charge, would you happen to know?

Re: What is happening

I think that's pretty expensive, Cilla. But that been said, quality costs, it's true.

The inauguration was very special, Cilla. Very high key with many visiting royals, gala dinners, pomp and circumstance :) it will be strange having a king again after well over a century of queens on the trone!
We enjoyed the day very much. I think the vast majority of the people did.

Re: What is happening

Yes it does. Also there are not many people who will frame sewing projects. I suppose that could be partly because the number of people sewing cross-stitch or needlepoint pictures is smaller than it used to be. It's not much more than I've paid for framing in the past.

I'm glad you enjoyed the ceremonies, Hans. I like watching. It's good to have something positive happen occasionally!

I did for sure:). And I think most people did. The ceremony was amazing.

Re: What is happening

The ceremony was televised in the USA? Wow.

Priscilla May 2 2013 07:20 AM

Re: What is happening

You know, I don't know if it was televised here. I rarely watch television and get a lot of my news from the BBC website and CNN's site. Some of it might have been televised but not hours worth, like they do for the British royal weddings. ;)

It's an absolutely beautiful sunny day at last. We need it. However, now Jeff tells me we are several inches behind on rain. Wonderful. :irk:

Edit. My apologies. Reading my previous post it does sound as if I watched the ceremony on tv. What I meant was that I enjoy the ceremonies on tv when/if they are televised.

Re: What is happening

That's ok Cilla, I was confused a bit because the Dutch TV actually commented on the fact that the news didn't get any coverage or attention in the US, except for a byline on the CNN website :) i understand, although on the other hand, when I meet Americans they are always interested in the monarchies that are still there :) and the old traditions especially.

The hummingbirds have arrived!

In other news, the band Mike plays bass and sings with (Forget Paris) is playing this afternoon at a charity function to raise money for cancer. Talent and kind hearts as well!

With me it's bluebirds. They're the Missouri state bird, and when I was growing up, I never saw them. Over the past several years I've been seeing more of them, and this year it seems they're quite plentiful. Not just in the woods, but they're coming up around the house, too. I'm seeing more orioles, too.

Busy with the Kidling. Friday, they had a Global Service Day for the 8th and 12th grades. Today, Girls' Day Out... we managed to get her all set up for the 8th grade dance (in June). My baby is growing up!

Re: What is happening

Let's see.....

I have our big Jacuzzi tub assembled and have tested most of the electrical stuff. Lights, electronic controls for switching the various shower heads, radio, TV (haven't figured out how to program it yet) vent fan, ozone generator, all work. Untested: Jacuzzi pumps and steam generator (need water first), refrigerator (wired off the pumps, and they're not plugged in yet), and hands-free telephone (no connection yet).

Need plumbing installed. But I threw my back out a while back, pulling the tub out to begin assembly, and it finally got to me. I went to the chiropractor Thursday; he popped it back in and I felt it go back out about a half hour later. So returned to him Friday and got it popped again. Right now I'm not sure if the pain I feel is just soreness from it being back in after a month of being out, or if it's out again. Time will tell. Meanwhile, I have Vicodin.

We bought a new gas grille (for the first time ever) and I spent several hours with the "quick and easy" assembly instructions last night and this morning. I've wired B-52 bombers and restored cars most people have never even heard of, but this thing took 'way too long.

I'm working on a full Persian weave necklace. I have an assortment of things for a pendant, from 2 pieces of solar quartz; 1 is 63.25 carats and the other is 70.35 carats, to a rough ruby that weighs 23.90 carats. I have several agates that are already wire wrapped, and have a cut rutile quartz stone weighing 39.30 carats on the way from India. Plenty to choose from, and plenty more necklaces needed.

I've started making wire-wrap rings. I have 3 made, and will be doing several more in the near future.

Guess that pretty well catches me up on what's going on around here.

Re: What is happening

I would love to have a jacuzzi tub/hot tub. My husband won't have one unless it's in an enclosed building because he says it would cost too much to keep it warm in winter. He's also not interested in spending the money to build an enclosure to house one. Our next door neighbors have one outside but they aren't known for being practical. I do enjoy them in hotels when we go on vacation. Yours sounds luxurious, tv and the works! With the way your back is acting up it sounds like you'll enjoy it once it's in working order.

I guess we did the lazy way of getting a gas grill when we moved here - went to the hardware store and bought one all assembled.

I look forward to seeing more of your jewelry. It's beautiful!

Re: What is happening

The tub is in our new bathroom. I built the addition around it. It's about 4 x 5 feet, and over 7 feet tall. There's 2 hand held shower heads, a rainfall head in the ceiling, 6 back jets in the one wall, and 2 more on one of the poles for one of the hand helds. The tub has 14 jets, I think, and there's also a water-powered foot massager.

Before someone says I could live in it, there's no toilet.

Wow! That sounds like something from one of the fabulous homes they sometimes showcase on the Home & Garden channel! Color me officially jealous! :good:

Re: What is happening

We bought it on ebay almost 3 years ago. Here's what it looks like. It's the 2013 model. Basically the same, but they've added a heater for the Jacuzzi. Ours doesn't have one, and they don't offer a retrofit.

vyon May 6 2013 07:55 AM

Re: What is happening

So how do you heat the water?

And do you have rainwater, town supply, or stream water?

On the bird department, the tuis have come down from the mountains into the suburban gardens for the winter. Right now, they're chasing each other all over the place re-establishing their mating pairs, with a little bit of singing inbetween.

Allen May 6 2013 09:39 AM

Re: What is happening

I'm on my own well, and the tub uses water from the water heater. I'm installing a 50 gallon water heater just for the new bathroom. The newer models have a heater to keep the water hot, instead of letting it cool over time. This is different from a traditional hot tub. It's a whirlpool or massaging bath tub with showers and ..... amenities, shall we say.

But if I ever find a way to retrofit a heater unit, I may have a hard time getting my wife out of it.

Priscilla May 6 2013 09:50 AM

Re: What is happening

We have a good sized bathtub in our bathroom that has jets in it. Never used it as I'm just not a bath person and the tub would use a lot of water. We have a well that provides a good supply, but I can't see filling this thing up. Your idea of putting in a separate hot water heater should help considerably.

Allen May 6 2013 02:37 PM

Re: What is happening

Well, when I bought this mobile home, I was single. I had a 50 gallon water heater installed back then. When I want hot water, I don't want to run out too soon. Adding a second bathroom, it seemed only right to include a separate water heater. By the way, in case you think the 4 foot by 5 foot tub might take up too much room, let me tell you about the bathroom. I built a closet along the back wall, but the basic size of the room before anything else is 12 by 14 feet. The closet is about 30 inches deep by 8 feet. There's also the 8 foot vanity with two vessel sinks. But there's still going to be plenty of room.

I'll post some pics of the construction so far, if you'd like to see them.

Re: What is happening

Love to! We went through the whole construction thing with our house and then the big renovation project when we inherited my parent's place. When we ended up selling that I have to say I'm glad we bought a place that really doesn't need anything done to it. We enjoy watching This Old House (well, Jeff watches more than I do) and some of the HGTV shows, though I'm starting to wonder if "Love it or List it" might be "rigged". The designer always gets a tiny budget and there is ALWAYS some massive problem, usually in the basement. :brow:

Hope all is well with everyone here. Still don't have working computer, so only have a couple of min.

Over the weekend Kibby and I went to Pigonforge TN with Mom, Tammy and Robin for a Star Trek thing. Kibby & I did not do Trekie thing & stayed at a different hotel (cheaper). On Friday night Kibby & I took a drive on one of the senic loops. We were lucky and saw a bear with 3 cubs, on the side of the road. There were around 40 people standing around watching them and taking pics. The mama bear did not seem bothered by all the poeple at all. We stood there for at least 20 min. watching them. Will post pics later.

Well, bright and early in the morning, we're pulling up stakes and heading north. We'll pull our fifth wheel to NC and stay there for 2 weeks before heading to Ohio for the summer.

Re: What is happening

Sad news

Last Tuesday, to the day exactly two months after we lost my mother-in-law, my father-in-law (87) was killed when he was crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing in our home town and was hit by a car. Death was instantaneous. A doctor, who was in a car a few cars back immediately lend her assistance but couldn't do more than establish that he was deceased and that nothing could be done anymore.
Of course this has devastated our little family. So short after losing our dear mother-in-law and just when he had conquered the first deep sadness and grief and was picking up his life again. Something that he was doing well. With the weather picking up he was working in his garden again and after the loss we had established a routine in which he had dinner with us once each week and my wife called her father each evening. It is so unfair to be torn from this life in such an idiot way. Tou read and hear of traffic casualties many time nowadays but it never cam close and now it came too close and the victim is someone you know and love. That's hard and very dificult to understand and deal with.

I suppose it means I'll probably be quiet for a week or two. Much more now must be arranged than for that sad day two months ago.
