See ya all on Monday or Tuesday. Going to Pa this weekend, so I won't have access to the net. I get to meet my cousin's new twinnies!

For the most part, it was fine. The Kidling certainly had fun with my cousin's middle two girls!

Glad you had a nice trip.

Kibby is at Top Sail N.C. (beach) for the week. Hubby went to race at Bristol Tn. My birthday was nice and quiet. Slept in until noon and did nothing the rest of the day. Very nice.

Rabbit is now blind in one eye. He bugged the wrong cat for too long. Starburst scratched his eye and it got infected. Eighty dollars latter he is blind in the one eye, but the infection is gone.

Working today, going to the fair tomorrow... and next week, a wake and funeral. I really hate those, but....the husband of a very dear, long-time friend of mine (as close as a sister) passed away last night.

Re: What is happening

Hi all. Not much going on. I'm on Hubby's computer. He's not home. I kicked Kibby out and took over his computer and tv. I have to stay up and pick him up in a little bit. Unless he gets a ride, which is what I am hoping for. He is only about an mile away. He usually does not want to come home until late. I really don't want to stay up.

George (stupid rabbit) has finially figured out that if the cats can go out the pet door than he can also go out the pet door. This has only taken him 3 months to learn. We had to get more eye droops for him. He got his good eye scratched. By the same cat. Who he keeps chasing.

Re: What is happening

Well, let's see..... This week.......

Monday we went to Jonesburg, Mo. where my mother, sister, and sis's family live, for a Labor Day barbeque. Ribs, cole slaw (not to be confused with Murphy's Law), potato salad, fruit salad, devilled eggs, baked beans, and peach pie, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something, all excellent.

Tuesday I got up early and started mowing, which consists of a 5-foot mower behind my tractor. Got fairly far along, then a part broke. It was a pin that's supposed to shear so you don't break the PTO shaft. Well, when I was cleaning grass, weeds, and debris from the shaft, the seal started leaking. So I let it leak and moved on to going shopping for curtains for the new bedroom with the wife, putting up same, and moving boxes containing new medicine cabinets, sinks, and wall lights for the new bathroom out of the bedroom. Some other assorted stuff got accomplished.

Wednesday and Thursday were work days in the prison. 12 hour shifts both days, as usual, dealing with the usual BS. that goes along with dealing with convicted felons.

Friday I tore the tractor apart, pulled the old seal, and ended up going on an expedition looking for a new one. 5 stores and 50 miles later, I found it, got to do some grocery shopping along the way at one of our favorite discount stores, and got the tractor almost done. Almost, because I ended up about a gallon short on gear oil, and it started to rain. So I moved inside, got hold of my wife's antique marble top dresser that her great grandfather built. Took the marble top off and disassembled it for her so she could strip it for refinishing. More on that later.

Saturday, yesterday, I went to the parts store again, bought the last gallon of gear oil, went to Walmart for things we forgot Tuesday, put the gear oil in the tractor and tried it out for about 10 minutes, then installed the 4-foot French doors in the opening between the old and new bedrooms. Old bedroom will be a sitting/dressing room when completed. First I must finish new bedroom, new bathroom (en suite), addition to the spare bedroom which will more than double its size, and our new dining room.

Today, Sunday, I hung our 32-inch flat panel television (purchased last year and not used until about a week ago) on its new wall bracket in the bedroom, cleaned the new bathroom's floor and mixed and applied joint levelling compound. Searched out some of the same close-out tile that I need more of for the bathroom, and grouted the glass tile on the half wall in the bathroom.

Along the way I've been giving lessons to the wife about how to properly strip finish from that dresser. It's a very nice piece of furniture that deserves better treatment than "that's good enough", which is my wife's usual way of doing projects that turn out to be harder than she thought. I've stopped what I've been doing to critique her work, show her how to do what must be done, and explain why it needs to be done that way. Some of that explanation and demonstration is due to the chemical stripper she's using, which needs to be cleaned off properly, along with the old finish, and some is because I restored antique cars for 15 years, so I find I'm a natural nit-picker. I won't let her settle for "that's good enough" She gets tired, she loses interest. So instead of letting her settle, I keep after her to take a break then start up again. I don't want her to say "I wish I'd done it right" six months from now. I'm having a ball with the project. And irritating her.

Things are going well. We're finally getting our house in some sort of order. Sorry, I have photos but haven't managed to organize them yet. The only way I get some computer time is to let Marcus watch a bit of the Cars movie and the Mater shorts. He loves all that stuff, and I admit it's funny in spots.

It was late at night, back country 2 lane road.No side walks or lights. After drinking. I would rather go get him.
The people on the road drive like they got no brains, especially at night.

The number of people who try to pass me up going up a hill and around a curve when I am doing the speed limit makes me think a lot of the people have or want to loose their minds.

I have mostly been deciding where to put the goat. The lower part of our acre is over grown so I put him and his house down there. Last night there was a lot of coyte howling so I moved his house next to our house. When it is not raining I will move him during the day and bring him back up at night. There has also been reports of wild dog in the area. Much safer at night next to the house.

Tomorrow's 4H class should be fun. The state police is going to use a robot to blow something up. They are studying robots the first half of the year.

Gotcha! No sidewalks I can deal with, no lights is worse. Especially if there are lots of crazy drivers around.

That said, when I was between 8 and 12 years old we lived out in the boondocks, with about 3 kilometers or 2 miles from the nearest village and school. The road was a one-lane dirt road with no lights, but from age 10 I was no longer eligible for a ride to school and neither of my parents had a driving license at the time. The general store in the village did home deliveries and we got a cab to the train station in the nearest town if we needed to go anywhere. I rode a bike or walked to school, sometimes skiing in winter if there was enough snow, with a flashlight if necessary (at my latitude it's still dark at 8.30 in November if there's no snow). Alone, mind you, or with other kids going to the same school. No parents. The saving grace of it all was that there was very little traffic on that road.

BTW, a Swedish "mile" is 10 kilometers!

The local rescue squad is having their rummage sale and auction tomorrow. Kibby has been helping my sister set up and has spied several things she wants. Tammy has to b.e there at 6:30 am. I will have to take Mom and Kibby. I don't know if I will stay or not.
I have not felt well all week. Mostly tired and light headed. Just not right. I do not know if I will stay or not.

mawra Oct 10 2012 05:01 PM

Re: What is happening

Went to the rumage sale and auction, did not find anything I wanted. I set some polo type shrits for MIL.

My sister had given me 20 dollars so I got M. Lackey's newest book. It was good.

Friday I was sick. Just did not feel right, cold sweets, jaw hurt and exhausted. Nothing helped until I took some asprin. Mom decided I should get checked out. So on Tue. I went to UVA. EKG came back good. Dr. wants me to do stress test so back to UVA.

Monday I slipped getting out of tub. Dr. said I sprained by back so I am not moving much. Lot of pain. Mostly I am staying home
