Board game???? - A Meeting of Minds

I was flipping through my "Atlas of Pern" when I came accross a reference to "the recently released Pern board game."

The copyright on my atlas is 1984. Can anyone give me info on it? This is very exciting news for me!

This is the game from Mayfair games, and it's rather akin to "Risk"--a table-top strategy game in which you fight thread instead of conquer territory. There are cards with portraits of the characters, by, IIRC, Robin Wood, the artist who did "People of Pern." There are two covers available--either "Dragonquest" or "Moreta" by Michael Whelan. You can usually find one on eBay.

Trouble is, only people I know who might be knowledgeable enough to play it with me don't exactly live close enough for me to invite them round for an evening of Wine and Pern

perhaps if several people got a board you could play a game using MSN or just long-term on the board.

No. It's been "out of print" for years. (It's not really much fun as a strategy game, as the whole faceless meaningless enemy thing is kinda boring, and for RPers who like character-based games it's worse than useless. Add that to there not being a really massive fan base that games for DoP and I'm not surprised it died in fairly short order.) Ebay and other on-line auctions are really your only bet for finding it, unless you have access to the sort of dealers who do conventions, and even then I don't think I've ever seen a dealer at GenCon (the biggest US gaming con) have a copy.

I've had my board game since 1988 and have yet to find anyone in my area to play it with me! (Also, no one in my family would play with me !)

I've had to put the same notice up, myself but average price seems to be about $20 to $40 US dollars although prices will go up accordingly if there's several of us bidding on the same item. P&H differs depending on the country to which said item is being sent to, from the USA. Hope that helps. I know that from Australia, for me to send to Europe/Africa/USA, it's about $5.55Aus (up to 250g), cheaper to send to Asia/New Zealand, then further out.

I'm thinking about bidding on the one on ebay.com that ends 3 days from now, but it looks like an ebay-user called cillmae is bidding on it already. Is this some of you guys? I wouldn't want to jack up the price on a fellow MoM'er.

Hans, there are directions for a solo version of the boardgame. I've never tried -- just doesn't seem as appealing as playing with friends.
