Becky...WOW!!! you make me blush to my ears with your lovely compliments. I am so happy that you also are very pleased with this one...I was really hoping you would be. Since I have that lovely photo signed by Anne herself, and know she likes it...I thought it would be very appropriate to do a *Pern* version of it for her Birthday. I hope Anne likes it, when she see's it, as much as we three do.

Like the others I was impatiently waiting for Anne's birthday, not only to congratulate her but just as much to see Master Maelin's birthday portrait. What a fantastic radition she (Maelin, not Anne) started!

And I'm not disappointed in any way. Not that I was expecting to of course The portrait is stunning as usual, a younger Anne this time. The background detail is impressive and the scrolls are beautiful and have me yearning to tke them out and read which new and old songs and ballads can be found on them...

Thank you Master Maelin
and a toast and a happy birthday to Anne!

Love it! And it does seem to be a more youthful Anne, though the silver hair slightly belies that fact. The details are spectacular as always, dear H.S.

Is there some way to put all the birthday portraits you've done side by side in one post, so we could see them all together?

Did you send it to Anne? Does that mean I'll get to see it when I visit? (Sorry, being selfish now. I'd love to see the original.)

This portrait took me a lot longer than most, as I've been thinking of doing this one for about two years now...just had to see it clearly before I started.
It's made me extremely happy to be a member of MoM, and to share with everyone here my small creative talents...especially on Anne McCaffrey's Birthday.

Peter...thank you dear friend, yes I did put a lot of my Pern self into this one, and I'm glad you enjoyed her eyes...

Cilla...Thank you very kindly H.S....I did try to make her look younger but at the same time, old enough to look the wise age for a Master Harper. She has had white/grey hair for a very long time, even when she was a great deal younger...just seemed the right color for her....

Great Portrait!

To be honest, I didn't realize it was a new portrait the first time I checked in on the thread. I thought it was one from one of the books (e.g. People of Pern, Lover's Guide, etc.).

That should tell you how professional I thought it was.

I was half as talented of an artist as Robin Wood. Her *People

inspirational and very creative footsteps.

I came back to view the new portrait, as I always do, and see so much more in it than I saw the first time! (again as I always do) The wonderful folds in the fabric of her shirt at the cuffs and bend in the elbow, just amazing! And again at the shoulder and where her firelizard is touching the collar...wow! And I looked at Anne's face and her skin is so....well.....real looking! The musculature is all there on Anne and even the firelizard, it just floors me!

I love colored pencils and have some really neat pics that I've done with them, but you've taken them to another level! You've done what I might have done if I'd been able to continue art classes and been more dedicated to art and just worked on my own. If there weren't several hundred miles between us and a couple of states I'd be coming to you for lessons (if you offered them that is)! Keep up the hard work....it shows in everything you do!

Becky...again I want to thank you so much for your generous and lovely compliments. I am so pleased
that you are enjoying this portrait of Anne so much.
This portrait of Anne has been a long time in the making for me...and when it was the right time it just
sort of came out onto the paper. I don't think I could actually teach anyone how to create like I do...
its not something I am wholy conscious of during that time...my pencils just seem to know right where
to go. Things I see just seem to go in and roll around in my head and when they get finished percolating
together they come out onto the paper and I get to take the credit for it all...but the true artist inside
me says thank you, and is doing a very happy dance

I am so incredibly happy to have so many of Anne's devoted fans here to share it with. Not to mention,
being able to share it with Anne herself, thanks greatly to my very dear friend Hans.

Default Re: Anne McCaffrey...Happy Birthday 2009

I kept on looking at that portrait, thinking, "It looks like someone else, too. Not just a younger Anne."

Then I realized - it also reminds me of Kate Mulgrew (did I get the name right?) - Captain Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager. Which really isn't that much of a stretch, since she admits to being Irish, also. Racial features and all...

I agree with you Shayn, they do look a little like each other.

This came up years ago on the Old Kitchen Table when I nominated Kate Mulgrew for one of the Character Polls Anneli and I organised and managed for Anne's old website I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the faint resemblance between the two ladies!

Cheryl...You personally know that I am always studing other great artist, who I have a love of their work. So I know that you will understand when I say, for myself I know that my art is truly only a small talent, especially compared with so many other extremely talented artist I have seen, that have such a wonderful easy way of expressing themselves.
What you see me expressing here on MoM is all the enjoyment I have in creating some small parts of Pern and in being able to share them here with other fans of Pern, that also enjoy it so much. For this I will always hold you dear in my heart...and I will thank you for this opportunity... always
