Far too early for Christmas and unseasonally early anyway... it started to snow in the east of my country yesterday and today (when I came out of the indoor shopping center) I discovered mother nature had lost the colour on her palette in my town too. I shot some pictures near my house:

Very pretty Hans! We had snow on and off all day on Friday, but very little lasted between the bouts of snow. Still there was some on the leaves we finally raked off the lawn yesterday (and our trees are still holding lots more...).

Because of a recent storm (last Friday) a lot of the trees are already bare here.

A majority are bare here too, but it seems that the pear trees which we have (along with many of our neighbors) are among the last to turn and drop each year. I thought it was a fluke last year when I got lovely pictures of the pear trees in autumn colors while it was snowing, but it seems that's more the norm.

Very pretty!
We have a blizzard on, and they're predicting up to 10 cm (4 in) of snow overnight. I really hope the trains will run tomorrow! Had to go out today to buy a new overcoat for me. I bought two instead, one slightly warmer than the other.

Very pretty. We've had two snows here so far, but thank goodness they melted pretty quick. I really didn't want our winter long blanket of snow to start this early

It snowed here as well friday, saturday, and today the snow is just lying about looking white like your photos, Hans, making driving more fun

It's the neighbour's friend's 'scootmobile'. She can't walk very good so has one of those senior people scooters with comfy seating
![]() However, there's no possbility of parking the thing in the house, so it stays outside. It's actually still there (just looked out of my computerroom's windows) and the snow on the seat is gone but she'll have a cold bum going home... Nina wrote: Quote:

It's been cold in the Deep South as well. Sub freezing (very sub) night after night. On TV they said there was a dusting of snow in Eastern Alabama. Gotta love Global warming!

Snow was predicted here last night, hadn't started by the time I went to bed - but I woke during the night and ran to the window like a kid. The world was white! I was delighted and threw open the window, took a deep breath and just generally rejoiced. When I woke properly, most of the snow had melted - it seldom stays long here on the south-eastern coast of Scotland - but oh, it was lovely at 4 in the morning. Turned the pedestrian suburban cul-de-sac into an enchanted wood, as the street had disappeared and only the trees, the shrubs and the streetlights gave shape to the scene. Very Narnian...

Oh lord, all these photos are making me cold...brrrr.
I do agree that all the photos of the new snow are quite lovely...but unlike Lanen, I enjoy the frosty cold winters of Southern California...you know where it gets down to a chilly 45 or 50 degrees...just enough for a nice jacket. I'll leave all that white cold stuff to you winter snow lovers. But for the rest of you who happen to live with those kind of white winters, but who are like me, I will think an early and warm spring for you!!!

It must be the weekend for storms and the like. We had a respectable storm on the weekend, it rained, the wind went straight through you and it's supposed to be late spring here. I noticed 2 trees down as though they were torn from their roots when I went to work this morning and branches all over the footpath. That was fun, trying not to trip over anything.

No No No dear Hans ...I know your not a winter, snow, or cold lover...but Lanen is ...and that is more who I was directing those comments to...people like her. There are quite a few here in California that look forward to the winters, and any and all snow we might get in our local the mountians...for skiing and other winter sports. Seems we are seldom happy with what we get...cold climate people enjoy the heat...and hot climate people enjoy the cold...well perhaps all but a few like me who really enjoy the heat....or like Lanen,in colder climates enjoy the cold. Lanen, I do hope for you that you get at least one good snow...perhaps around the holidays...when snow is an added joy for the season.

I'm not a winter person, but that's because I hate the dark (5 hours of daylight at winter solstice). The snow brightens things up a lot, so I like it.

Wow, Nina, how gorgeous!
I'm jealous.Farclas, you're not far out - I'm in beautiful downtown Prestonpans. This close to the water, snow seldom lasts long, alas. And Granath - I know, the winter lack-of-daylight occasionally gets me, but then I start thinking 'how Dickensian!' and go for a walk outside in the bracing air, and I'm ok again. Though the going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark thing can be a real bummer. I'm sure that's why Christmas celebrations in the UK tend to close down offices for the whole week between Christmas and New Year - in the darkest nights, you need to be able to hibernate! ![]() Thanks for the wishes for a snowy Christmas - that would be brilliant! Snowed in with my honey safely at home and with nothing to do but enjoy each other's company - yep, that's heaven!

I may be putting a damner on things, but snow's nice when I'm inside and don't have to leave the house for a few days. Past that, it just turns into slush faster than you can dust off your old sledge. Although it does look pretty whilst it lasts...I guess the walk to Uni would be nicer to view...if a lot colder. We had a few half-hearted flakes last week, but nothing heavy.

There's snow up in my area, too, but only a couple of inches. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we get hit with a really huge snow storm.
Although, I saw some flurries in October when the ground was still warm enough that it melted the moment it hit the ground.

So, today it's been raining really hard. It got rid of all the snow that was on the ground, but the wind is howling.
I just went and checked the temperature outside on weather.com. It's 45 degrees F, and it says that right now there is light rain and it's windy. I can hear the rain falling outside, I would not call that light rain.
