Note about this Drawing...
Cilla, recently made a comment in one of the threads that Anne should be considered a Dragonrider. When Anne herself was ask, if she rode a dragon what would it be....her answer was "A Gold of Course". Since Anne stated that she would want to ride a Gold Dragon...and I have drawn her as a Master Harper twice now, I thought it was time that she was pictured with her own beloved Gold Dragon...and whats the name of her dragon you ask...well only Anne and her Dragon knows

Looking back (as one can so easily now) I can see a definite refinement of technique.

They're all great portraits but you've a wider pallette of textures.

I gave you the idea?! Oh my! Now I am honored to have had a tiny part in one of your wonderful creations. There is something about the eyes and mouth in this portrait that I think captures the "imp" that Anne occasionally lets out! Is it possible there is a bit of Piemur in Anne!? (most likely there's a "bit" of many of her characters!)

Peter, when I first started doing the drawings on MoM, they were merely quick sketches...as I went along I started putting more and more time into them. Now they aren't sketches anymore...but like this one...more along the lines of what I normally do for a real portriat...like the ones that I take on as commissions. Besides I now have some wonderful photos of Anne to work from..ones that show her real facinateing character....and I love working from them.

That is why your portriat looks so much more like you...I had some very good photos of you...hopefully you do remember posing for me...

Thank you so much Cheryl ...This was exactly the feeling that I was trying for in this portrait...as those of us who have been lucky enough to be in her company for any length of time have experienced. She does seem to have a constant twinkle in her eyes (perhaps like Cilla said, a bit of Piemur showing through)...that do cause the people around her to smile without even knowing why.

Sandi,Thank you so very much for your extreemely lovely compliment, to do a portrait that gives the impression to the onlooker, that they have seen a true glimpse of the real person is rare...but perhaps like many others have done before me, I have finally got a little of that feeling in this one. I do hope that someday you will get the chance to acutally meet Anne, but until then perhaps this portrait of her will tide you over.

Mylady, a true masterpiece. Having met Anne at Eurocon I think you caught her very well.

AND I really like her pendant necklace - so lifelike - I would certainly like to have one of those in gold as well. Where are they made and by whom?

Nina...thank you so very kindly for your compliment. As for the necklace it is one that Hans bought for himself , Cheryl and Anneli a few years back as gifts. There is a good photo of it on here somewhere in the archives that I used to draw from. The original comes in silver...but for my portraits gold has always shown up better instead of the silver. I drew this necklace in this portrait, to honor my three friends and their love of Anne. Glad your enjoying it.

T'mynn, it's modelled after a necklace I bought a few years ago on a Christmas market in Berlin, Germany. I gave one to myself and one each to my Pern Pals Cheryl and Anneli. I've looked for more ever since but never found them again.

Maelin did change the colour from silver to gold though

I stumbled overa nice dragon that hand five fingered hands and feet. Unfortuatly it wasn't made of a precious metel and it's wearing out.

T'mynn and Nina... Perhaps??? Soon you will be able to order a MoM t-shirt with the portrait of Anne on it, as Cheryl mentioned during the Albacon t-shirt ordering, that she was going to make them available to the general memebership, at some point after Albacon.

I love this portrait too! And, Master Maelin, I think you're probably right in what you said about learning to draw. But you left out one element in being able to draw the way you do and that's Talent. Buckets and loads of Talent!

Lady Maelin, rawing, with any medium and clay modeling is something I enjoy as much as sewing. :-) It's amazing to see something forming under the fingers that was once inside the mind.

Sandi, it just takes scads of practice. I do kn ow that if I don't draw, I 'loose' the ability. Too get it back I have to work twice as hard to get it back.

WOW!!! T'mynn...thats fantastic...I thought from what you said that you were a beginer wanting to know how to draw better. I also love to sculpt in clay, but haven't done it now for about five years. I truely believe that learning how to sculpt the face, helps to make your portraits much more realistic. I have shown and sold several sculptures in the past...but in the last few years, I just haven't had the time for it. Good luck with your own art work.
