WHAT?! Good grief... and I didn't even know he was so ill. I thoroughly enjoyed the first handful of his Wheel of Time series very much. A great writer has passed away in a sad, sad way. He will be sorely missed.

This is sad news - we were finally getting close to finding out how the Wheel of Time would end! I hope he's left copious notes lying around so someone can piece together the conclusion.

He did and I'm sure the series will be completed. But I will miss not being able to read the future books he talked about writing after WoT was completed.

My first experience of a proper internet community was the rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan newsgroup. I was mostly just a lurker there, posting very rarely, but even so... these books were a huge part of the fan-ish part of my life.

He'll be missed, that's for sure.

I'm afraid I never managed to get properly immersed in his WofTime series, but he was without doubt a great author

We greatly enjoyed the first handful too - We have about four of them signed. We met RJ at a book signing in Chicago when Stephanie was 2 or 3 yrs. She nailed him in the back of his head with her stuffed Pooh bear from about 12 feet away. We, of course were horrified ~ he was quite kind (it was a freak accident of sorts - Stephanie couldn't throw/aim at all...) We have a very nice photo of him with Tom and Stephanie (and the offending bear) in the background in our library. He will be missed and he will be remembered...

The book will be finished, and I'm SO glad as it was slated to be the end of the series. I always hoped he'd live long enough to finish it and to write a bit more about Moiraine and Lan and their lives before Rand was discovered. "New Spring" was such a great book. I'm curious to see how the 'new' author finishes. I know it won't be the same, and the writing is going to have to be different, or I have a feeling RJ's 'super-fans' will rip the poor guy apart. I pray it's a good book!

I'll miss the books he didn't write, but talked about the ideas he had for them. They sounded very promising.

I'm glad that the series is being finished, although it's a shame that Jordan couldn't see the final volume on sale himself. Looking forward to seeing how the WoT finishes, too.

I liked his short stories from the WoT series in various anthologies that I read. A friend of mine loves his books so I always keep an eye out for him, to add to his sci-fi/fantasy collection. He won't be happy that one of his favourite authors has passed away as he did like reading RJ's books. It's unfortunate that a great author has passed away.

Here's a link to Dragonmount, the Robert Jordan website, talking about Memory of Light. Has anybody else read any of Brandon Sanderson's work? I find them quite enjoyable.

I enjoyed his first seven books of WoT. I have the rest published to date but haven't read them yet. I'll have to get to it.

For those who are interested, here is what Brandon Sanderson has written about finishing Jordan's series with the book A Memory of Light.
