Default Word of the Day: 2

I don't feel authorative enough to call these 'rules'; so ...

Suggested Procedures

1. I, or my duly appointed ‘locum tenens’, will post a word or two each day (real life permitting). We will give any variations of meaning or grammar part (e.g. if the word is both adjective and noun).

2. You will write a sentence to show that you know the meaning: for this you get one point.

3. If you manage to use the word a number of times in your sentence showing the use of different meanings and grammar parts: you score a point for each variation.

4. If your sentence is about an Anne character or incident: you score a bonus.

5. If your sentence is a riddle not actually naming the character or incident: you get one for the riddle AND another bonus if somebody correctly deduces the answer. (N.B. the first person to post the correct answer ALSO gets a point.)

e.g.1: (by Cheryl) “I hoped they'd find some exculpatory evidence and clear my name soon...”

This uses exculpatory once and thus scores 1.

e.g.2: “She needed support pecuniary (i)
And she needed it pecuniary (ii).
To buy their aliment (iv)
She needed the aliment (v);
So her lawyer writ him pecuniary (iii).

1. Relating to money; monetary.
2. Consisting of money.
3. Requiring payment of money.
4. (archaic) food; nourishment;
5. (Scots Law) maintenance; alimony.

(Irene Teasey: Kilternan Legacy)”

This uses pecuniary three different ways and aliment two different ways: so that scores 5.
It is a riddle and was answered correctly: making a grand total of 7!

N.B. This does not happen often! Somebody happily claiming two or three points a day may land up points ahead of the smart ass (me) fighting for inspiration.

If you want to make your contribution into a rhyme: do so.

It does not HAVE to be a limerick. It can be a rhyming couplet, a seventeen syllable Japanese style Haiku, or a grand epic (though writing something as long as Childe Harold to explain a single word may be looked on as overkill).

If you need help: ask! (if you are shy, try P. M’ing me. And I’m pretty sure that Sandi and Brenda will also help if asked.)

Ok, here goes:

In order to be a fungible
It must be made quite fungible
And cut in a set
With brackets well set
Or else it will not be fungible.

By the way, are any points awarded for guessing correctly?

Sandi: good 2nd question. I HAD looked at it as rewarding the poser of the riddle for making it solvable. (we had a few last time that nobody got) I'll amend the procedures.

1st question: I had Maw scoring 3 for the poem: fungible used twice but in one sense, riddle & answer; which is what I was refering to. However, I'll conceed that she used it in two senses, But her TOTAL is 5 'cos she gets 1 for her earlier sentence.

yen
\, noun:

1. A strong desire or inclination; a longing.

2. Unit of Japanese coinage.

intransitive verb:

1. To have a strong desire or inclination; to long.

Okay amended 'suggested procedures' in place.

To meet her I've a definite yen,
I even know where and when,
By boat and by bus
I'll get there (I guess)
At least I won't have to spend Yen.

Sorry about the rotten assonance

Not caring what he had been,
She did yen to seduce him
And other folk used him

@ Maw, yes it was. When you have a chance you should give them a shot, at least the first two But the one before was Pern and so is this one:

By nature, he seemed impassible
But at times he was almost irascible
He seemed without fear
And when danger drew near
He proved himself quite impassible.

I'm struggling with yours, though. Is it one of Todd's stories?
