Default May Be Selling Some Of My Better Things

There have been some problems in my family and it seems it has been left up to me to try to raise money to fly my granddaughters from Oregon to Indiana..(this is not cheap)..so......I may have to sell some of my treasures that I really had not intended to sell! I can't raise that kind of money slowly selling 4 or 5 dollar books, which has basically been my hobby to support my book buying, so it will have to be from my "better" things, some of which I have not had long myself.......I do not have any set prices in mind yet and I know things vary wildly on ebay, depending on who is bidding at the time.......

possible sell items are......

Brandywyne signed 1st of Moreta (Hans has first Dibs on this)
Dolphins Bell signed limited ed (ex. cond)
ex lib Walker 1st ed Ship Who Sang (presentable but is a vintage ex lib!)
Dragonflight signed graphic hardback (looks brand new)
Orbit 1st ed Crisis on Doona
Orbit HB Treaty at Doona BCE
Crime Prevention in The 30th Century anthology (this is a Walker 1st ed, 2nd print in very good cond....I think 1970 but need to look to be sure, ...5 stories are signed by thier authors.......including Anne's)
Worlds of Anne McCaffrey (1st ed.....ex. cond)
1953 Sci-Fi Plus Mag. with Anne's 1st story! (very good condition)
The White Dragon Album (story read by Anne)
The Dictionary of Science Fiction Places (lg HB like new)
And yes, I am considering selling my Pern Portfolio though I was so happy to get it.........
I have multiple copies of "regular" edition hardbacks of just about all of Anne's books.....though there are probably a few I don't have at the time.
I am not expecting to get outrageous prices for my books but what I could reasonably expect to get via ebay........
One last item........Habit is An Old Horse.........a couple of small water spots on the cover but otherwise in very good shape.
If you are looking for anything in particular just ask as I might have it though I can say now that I do not have 1st eds of the first books of Anne's such as Dragonflight, Quest, etc.! Wish I did!
If anyone is interested in any of these let me know and I can answer more detailed questions and try to get some pics sent asap (I have a hectic work schedule right now).........feel free to make a resonable offer but please remember I can't sell a book that would bring a $100.00 or more on ebay for $50.00.....I just wanted MoM members to get first chance. I will try to replace them later when circumstances allow.

Dee - I'm so sorry to hear you're selling some of your things! I know it's hard to let them go, I've had to do the same in the past. But it's nice to know that you can use these items to help out your family. And while it may take a while, you'll get them back.
I've sent you a PM already on the item I'd like to purchase.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I hope the granddaughters get to Indiana safely and things smooth out for them and you too, Dee.

You know, I said I would be heartbroken to part with my Anne things, but I think that you are being pretty selfless to do so. I think it is better to help out family than to keep 'things.'

Thank you all......the girls are used to being with me as they have lived with me off and on most of thier lives, they are now 11, 13 and 14! They grow up so fast. My daughter and her husband are going through a messy divorce and things are stressful for all. They have asked me to take the girls for a couple of months and the girls want to come here as all the family is here including thier great grandparents. It will all work out I'm sure!

Anyway, to let people know, I am not going to sell the Portfolio.....it is so hard to find I would not likely find another later and I do not want to hurt anyone's feeling by "picking" who to sell it to. I have already had several inquiries about it. Hopefully selling some of the other books will be enough to add to what I have.......also the Crime Prevention book has found a new home I believe so that will not be available.
I will be listing all the other books on ebay very soon as I cannot wait too long......time is a factor.......I may try to list them tonight.

Deanne, I am so sorry that you are having to sell some of your very precious book collection. Good luck with raising enough money to get them out to where you are, and that all your problems find away to be solved happily.

I would love a couple of your items...but my normal book budget is very short right now....since we are planning on a huge trip this September.
I know how wonderful they probably are since you are a #1 ebay seller, very honest and easy to deal with!!! Good Luck Lady...I will send you good thoughts for a happy solution to your delima.

I'll make you an offer on the Moreta, Dee. I'm sorry about the circumstances; for some reason or another I think we've all been there in one way or another. For me though, I'd first be selling other things than my books, booksin general, not only McCaffrey you're looking at a person with over 5,000 books in the house But that in itself might actually be a luxury.

Hang on in there and let's hope the divorce won't cause the family and especially the children too much pain

Again, thank you all for your kind thoughts! Books are books no matter how much they are treasured they are not as loved as the people in your life (I would hope!). I can always replace a book but who can replace a granddaughter? And kids are tough these days, they seem to hold up under bad circumstances better than the adults....they are looking at this like a grand vacation! Personally I'd rather be taking a vacation myself! I'm not looking at all this as a bad thing....will be glad to see them myself as it has been several months since I have. Besides.........later on down the road would I want one them looking at me saying, "Well grandma, since you loved your ole books more than me, guess you can just sit here alone with your books!" Maybe an exagerated thought but still a possibility. LOL. And Hans I have little else I could sell aside from books.....suppose I could sell my old car but I hate the thought of walking to work! Getting lazy in my old age.

Deanne, You actually have the last book I need for my collection on sale on ebay right now - Dinosaur Planet Survivors. That I will be bidding on. The other books I would have loved to purchase already have bids on them so that is a good thing!

Take care of the grandkids! It's a wonderful thing that they know you are there and will take care of them with tons of love! Is it cheaper to fly you here to Oregon, rent a car and drive back with the 3 of them? Just a thought.

Suzy Q......which by the way is what I call my 25 yr old daughter Susan who is daughter #2, that would be a good idea but I can't drive that far......my knees would have me in misery and I'd have to stop and walk around so often the trip would take twice as long! And Hans, congratulations on the long marriage! Not many can claim that these days.......I had to send my last one home to his mother as I got tired of raising and supporting him......sounds like a joke but he actually DID move back in with his mom! She does his laundry and packs a lunch for him everyday to take to woirk.....at least she did make him get a job! I figure by the time he is 60 or so he might be like a real grown up person! I've really got to stop bringing home stray pups.........

Pity that more people are not held in contempt of court for nonpayment of child support. Goes to show...children really have little value. Pity that immigration laws and gun control and crime are always at the forefront during election years. People need to think more.

And now, of all things, the daughter does not know what she wants to do as far as the girls coming here! She called me tonight and doesn't seem to know what she wants to do about ANYTHING. I love her dearly but I had visions of strangling her!!!! She is 30 years old and if she doesn't make her mind up what is going on she may not not make it to 31.......(will any of you mail me books if I'm in jail?)............

Deanne: at the time of my divorce, a wise man told me, "it is not a broken family that damages the children: it is a BREAKING family. What damages them is the insecurity of not knowing what is going on. Make the break as fast as possible."

Perhaps you need to "rescue" your g'daughters for their sakes. Then your daughter can shilly shally as much as she wants.

Even tho Anne doesn't really like the story I think that when you consider that she got across a lot in just two short pages it's really a great accomplishment. It's an odd story, yes, but she put a lot of info into it. Enjoy, Edi!

I have been- Slow Burn seems like a primitive version of thread.
It's a gorgeous mag, I wasn't expecting it to be quite so big though- most of my other pulp mags are A5 sizeish. I like the fact they actually have consultants on it.

Edi, Congratulations on getting one of these fantastic magazines. This is one of my true treasures that Anne signed for me personaly last year. She was surprised that anyone had one of them, saying "Now this is really an old one". I love the ship that is on the cover of it....reminds me of Helva..but then again almost any rocket ship reminds me of Helva.
