Default Grahea Journeywoman Weaver

This is Grahea, Journeywoman Weaver, and her Firelizard Mintie. You see her here at her loom, working on cloth for the holds.

Here is our lovely member Apocalypse...finally just in time before she has to start her new job. I hope you enjoy this portriat as much as I did in doing it....this was truly my pleasure Madam .....Maelin

So beautiful, vibrant. I love all the details as usual, from the loom to the pockets full of sewer's tools and the tape measure around the neck. This portrait's giving me a nice warm fuzzy feeling -- perhaps because it's such a nice domestic scene. All it's missing is a cat curled up under the loom!

I've looked at the backthreads and I don't believe I've commented on any of your works simply because everyone already says the things I want to say. "Brilliant" "Fantastic" "Amazing detail"

...although I must say I like the shading/highlighting on this one. -Wise nod- It's been said before but I'll say it again...This is absolutely amazing.

I am so happy that you are all enjoying Apo's portriat. This one was a bit of work, but since Kas had to wait soooo long for her portriat(and so nicely) and her choice of craft/character was so very different I thought I would try to make it really interesting for her and all of you. I truly had so much fun doing this one, with all the details and especialy finding the old Dutch weaving loom.

Apo, You almost had Mintie the firelizard sitting on the loom instead of your shoulder...decided not to so that when you were using it as your avatar she showed for you.

@ Cheryl, I wanted to show her with some tools, and the tape measure was something for Mintie to hold onto for Grahea. No cats there remember ...they are very nasty plauge carriers there .

@Hans, the loom I got off of the internet, I was surprise to find out it out it was Dutch, they have such lovely things in Dutch musems!!!

@Kath, Yes those are glows in the basket...although they don't show up as well on the computer as they do in the real drawing...drat!!!

Edi, I never realized that there was a loom in the Grafic novels.. .I should have looked there to see what they showed.

@Peter, to have used a loom like this one you would have to be a lot older than you look...LOL!!!

@ Anareth, the braided rug just seemed to be a natural thing that would happen to all the left over yarns...so I made one for Apo to use( don't want her feet to get cold on those stone floors... !!!

Sammy, Apo Firelizard is so big from all the she has been feeding her while they were waiting for me to finish....

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE LOVELY COMPLIMENTS, I'M SO GLAD YOU ARE ENJOYING IT......Maelin

@ Maelin: not really; the trad manual multi-headle loom is still used in craft circles. As is the trad treadle spinning wheel. they're both brilliant engineering: the lowest level of technology to do the job efficiently (Fandarel watch out)

Peter, Thank you for all of the loom information...At least after seeing this new one now, the old one I drew makes a bit more sence to me. I could only see one side of it so I didn't figure out how it worked, but loved how the old wood looked like it should belonged to Grahea on Pern.

I adore the dragon carvings on the loom! Great idea to add those. All the little details make the portrait so special.
We're gonna have to make up new words of praise.

(sorry to have missed this earlier, but I've been a bit busy with the inlaws so not on the site much the past week or so.)

The purple is so vibrant - I especially like the detail with the ribon in her hair. You must have so much fun deciding on hair style and design of clothes.

Nef, Thank You.. I try to keep it as close as I can to what I think the member would look like on Pern...and to what they have ask me to do for them. I do use some period type clothes references that I have to help with the clothes designs sometimes. Occasionaly I also get some great ideas from the member themselves.
