I like this version of Ruth - it's the artwork from my copy of the White Dragon (my very first Pern Book).

That's what's on the cover of my first copy of The White Dragon, and although I don't quite see Ruth like that it is how I've come to see Jaxom. And I've always been fascinated by that cover. Its actually nice to see it all in one go without having to stretch the book flat and look past the blurb print and title. I don't mind it and I'm a Weston fan, too.

I love Roe's artwork and have been desperate for prints of a lot of his work!! (I've been nagging his nephew for a while now) So I really am sick with envy.
Although I agree, it's not quite a Pernese dragon, but that has always been the sort of dragon I have liked and drawn, even before reading McCaffrey's novels. In my opinion, Steve Weston's work is the best for depicting my idea of Pernese dragons. I also like Les Edward's work very much. I'm afraid I strongly dislike Michael Whelan's dragons. For me they look far to much like featherless, newly hatched chicks! |
