Is there a fan art section on this site? I have a hard time searching because everything Pern is blocked on the school computers and the one I'm using is slow. If there isn't, does anyone know where I could find one? I would really like to post pictures of my clay firelizards, but I don't have anywhere to post them.

When you post your art on the fan art forum, let us know!!! I'd absolutely LOVE to see your fire lizard sculptures!! I made some of my own polymer clay fire-lizards and dragons (including Ruth!!) but I don't know how to post it if I don't have a scanner. However, my dad does have a digital cam, so if you have any ideas how to post pics, please let me know!

If you have a digital camera, just upload to your computer, save in Jpeg (make sure the file is under 39KB) and click on manage attatchments when you make a post, browse for the file and upload. Voila!

Ok, now I have time to talk. I haven't been on in a LONG time because tons of stuff kept coming up. First, my mom ordered us a computer (YAY!) and bought a desk. I spent 2 days building the desk and another day setting up the computer. About the time I finished that, clay fever struck. I had the sudden urge to attempt to creat my greatest clay masterpice yet. For 2 weeks I strugled with "Project Ruth". I finally managed to finish (double Yay!). Ruth is 9 inches tall, 5-and-a-half inches tall, and has a 16-and-a-half inch wingspan. The gold firelizard with him is 3 inches long with a wingspan of 4-and-3-quarters inches. I'm going to try to put them in now.

Poor you. AOL's awful-we'v e got it at home and it won't load up some forums. You can use explorer as well though. I normally open the AOL browser + sign in, then open an explorer window. I'm in the UK but it should be the same for you!

These are really good. I had no problem in conceiving of the fellows as actual organisms, and you managed to capture a certain spirit to them. You've got the basis for a great talent there, which could do with some refinement. You may also like to experiment with different textures, and similar effects with your more original works, so as to gather a measure of technical prowess that may come in handy.

One question: how difficult would it be to make a clay sculpture for use as the template for a mould? You could learn to progress into casting your sculptures, which would be an exciting addition to your skills.

Thank you ghyle. I know I need to work at it some, I still have to take some art calsses someday; everything I know about clay as of now I learned from experience and "Creating Life-Like Animals in Polymer Clay" by Katherine Dewey. I have done some different textures, but Pernese dragons have smooth skin so there wasn't really a chance. I've done fur, and a made a stamp for scales that I'll use on the dragon I'm making now that I designed myself (I have 2 whole pages worth of concept art to prove it). She's gonna be even bigger and better than Ruth; she'll have scales, plates, spikes, and horns.

The detail that adds the most spirit to a sculpture is the eyes, it all comes from the eyes. Metallic paints and glitter glaze made the eyes look moist and lively and the glitter in the glaze simulated the many facets (though the camera didn't pick it up so well).

As for your mould idea: I have no idea how to make one, but I'd like too.

Part of it too, is the size of the firelizard; I had meant for her to be smaller, but somehow my sculptures allways manage to turn out bigger than I want them. Thanx everybody, your compliments really mean a lot to me.
