Cool Total lunar eclipse on Feb 20th

Eastern North America is in the prime viewing zone for a total lunar eclipse in the evening of Feb 20th. The eclipse will also be visible in the Western US (just not the full eclipse) and Western Europe (early morning hours of Feb 21).

In EST, the eclipse will begin at 8:43 pm, be at totality from 10:01 to 10:51 pm, and conclude at 12:09 am.

For diagrams of the event and a chart for several time zones, go here.

Cloudy here. It's supposed to show early tomorrow morning. I'd only have to get up about two hours earlier than usual, but I doubt I'll bother. The cloud cover is solid.

Yay! It's cleared up here!

Maw, it's worth checking every 30 min or so to see if it's cleared, you just might get to see part of it -- remember it lasts until midnight.

It was fairlly clear here for it and I got to go out and check on it several times. Was nice to see, but the moon stayed bright and shiny. Last one I saw the moon turned VERY red, which was eerie to watch.

Deb your picture is beautiful! I got a crick in my neck just staring at it so I changed to just looking a few minutes then going back inside then out again. The promised clouds held off until the shadow began to move off then they moved in for good and are still raining this morning.

It was beautiful. We watched it at several stages. The colors ranged from a yellow, to orange, to a coppery color. Always amazing to watch.

Total clouds all night with rain around 3:30am - light rain and spitting ice - they still predict snow for tomorrow IF it develops . . .

I got to see it after all! The storm didn't come until later.
I saw it around 9 pm CST, when it was just looking red on one side, and looked again an hour or two later and saw a really great view with a distinct crescent and the red shadow covering the rest! Even with all the bright lights on campus I got a good look when I shielded my eyes from them.

I really thought I was going to miss it!

I did go outside and look at it a little bit, but it was just too cold to stay outside for a long period of time. The skies were clear, and I had a nice view from my driveway, but I'm not crazy enough to stay outside for longer than I have to when the temperature is in the single digits.

My father took some pictures on his way home from work, but he hasn't uploaded them to his computer yet, so I can't take the images from him yet.

Well maybe next time I think they said it would be the year 2010 when it happens again....keeping my fingers crossed now, maybe that will help by then!!!
