Default new toy...

My bow's arrived!!!
it's great-the arrows go in a straight line now! tho I did get 1 in the skirting board and one into the saftey net casing!

They ordered me one that's lighter than the club bows 28 lb rather than 30lb as I'm kinda dinky!

here's what I've got...

Very nice Edi, In my old school days, I took archery, we all had to. It was part of the class program. I used a wooded bow ,one that I am sure came from sherwood forest, Robinhood probally use it himself, I got enough splinters from it ,I'm sure it was older than dirt. Your new one looks like you should be able to shoot great with it and no splinters. Are you learning, or have you been doing it for awhile? Good luck with it and try not to shoot anything living (you know anything, that can scream in pain) that you shouldn't

Good to know someone else also has an "unusual" hobby Maybe we should get together some time - you with your bow, me with my sword Between us we could perhaps teach the other sex a lesson or two when it comes to weapons practice

WOW, we have to watch out for you two. swinging swords and flying arrows. Edi why did you start to learn the Bow, was it for school credit or just because you wanted to? Now the sword that would be so cool, if I didn't cut something up with it . I am a bit clumsy. But it sound great how did you get started with a sword? This is great you never hear of women doing these things, men some but never women!... my husband just turned an odd shade of green, do you think it is something he ate or heard? Hummmmm!

Maelin, make that "three".

I have been handling bows since I was 6. I have been playing with knives since I was 13. In college, I competed in Woodsmens..... throwing double-bit axes, using bowsaws and chainsaws.....and I took a self defence course in college that I passed using a quarter staff.....

Hmmmmm.....we a dangerous lot!

A couple of years ago when I was working in London I was looking around for some exercise that I could do indoors in the winter to keep my legs in shape. I'm a keen horse-rider, but that's not an easy option in the middle of London in winter unless you're a millionaire . A friend persuaded me to trot along with him to a fencing class, and I found myself hooked

Then I discovered that fencing is not just physical exercise, it's a great mental work-out too, since so much depends on tactics and trying to out-manoevre your opponent. It's a form of physical chess However, I admit it took me a while to stop "pulling" my thrusts as I didn't want to hurt anyone Plastic breast protectors are definitely one of the best inventions ever

I'm in university not school!
dunno why I wanted to start archery-I had a go once and liked it and since last year I found out that the uni fencing club were all a group of stuck up... I decided that this year I'd do archery. the club's fun-cept the new captains waaaaaaaaaay too serious!

woodsmen stuff sounds fun!

definitely have to watch out as far as I'm concerned... I havent quite got the hang of aiming!

AnnMarie,Anneli, and Edith, The closest I have ever come to you all , is when I was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. I was trained as a secretary, but in basic we had to learn to carry a weapon. Instead of carring a weapon I ended up carring a fellow comrade with a sixty pound cast on her leg through manuvers. I learned to patch up wounds not make them...If I am ever in a jam I will know who to call, the 'THREE MUSKETEERS of PERN".
