They evacuated buildings in ALBANY NY because of it. I am a few miles north of that, and felt absolutely NADA.

we haven't had a bigish quake here in a long time, witch kind of worries me because that sometimes means we are going to have a big one, or lots of small ones.(I live on the california coast, so we tend to get a lot of earth quakes.)

Felt it here in Central Pa., Ground wiggled and the tower racks in our warehouse rocked to and fro a couple inches. Felt kinda weird.

WoW a couple of pages of reading in this thread and I've been able to get all caught up on what all you MoMers have been up to while I was away with a ton of work and finally off on vacation for two weeks.

Sorry to hear about the earthquake...I heard it was in Colorado...so it must have been a huge one to be felt so far away as North Carolina...or was that another one? I hope no one was injured...or at least not badly...they can be so distructive, in so short of time, as we all know from the ones in New Zeland and Japan recently.

Kevia...yes after I got off I heard about the one in Virgina...but nothing more about the one in Colorado...!?!

Rianne...we have them all the time, especially the little ones, actually several of them all but every day according to the USGS site. I do feel very sorry for those people in Virgina, going through their first quake and a 5.9 one at that, it can be extremely scary.

Big Apple has gotten notice. Bloomberg ordered 4 nursing homes in low laying areas evacuated TODAY...and two hospitals. People have been told to get out tonight. NYC Tranisit, Amtrack, NJ Transit... have all announced services will start shutting down tomorrow morning, and remain closed down until at least Monday. People in the Capitol District of NY have been stocking up on bottled water, batteries, flashlights, muchies, canned goods, alcohol, tobacco, and sterno cans today.

We're a couple hundred miles inland, so all we got was a bit of rain and breezy conditions. The coast, of course, has gotten blasted, but everyone I know over there so far checks in as being okay.

We got a lot of wind, but that was all. We did go on a drive yesterday and ran into a lot of rain. We did not go much further once we hit the rain. I really did not want to drive into a hurricane.

Historically bad flooding in parts of the viewing area. (NY, Ct, Vt) Bennington and Battleboro Vermont REALLY got nailed. We never lost power in my part of town, not many trees or lines down, but there is water in the basement

My part of Virginia only got high wind. I was not home, but, Hubby called and said that we were out of power. We got it back before the rest of home. Probably because we did not go home until he called to tell us we had power back.

Last time I posted, I was hoping to change my major. I can now say that I am enrolled at uni in my new major! Medical and Molecular Biosciences. So far, this has been a more enjoyable course.

Also,I somehow ended up becoming the treasurer of the uni's gaming club. Huh.

Weather here has been thankfully boring. Warming up now though.

A lot of people in Maine lost power because of Irene, but the power at my house never went out. I think there are still a some people without power, but I'm not exactly sure which areas that's limited to. I know that there were a lot down tree limbs and such things all over the state, but I never heard any reports of flooding even though there were flash flood warnings posted.

From everything that I've seen on the news, it looks to me that Maine got lucky with the track of the storm. In my area we got a lot wind and sporadic moments of heavy rain, but that was about the worst of it.

Trying to pack for the Labor Day camping trip, and found the sack that had my spare computer cords in it, they connect my Book Port Player so I can enjoy an movie, just yesterday, some how I lost it, and didn't recall it till a bit in the audio book of Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, her fixing the High Reaches Sr. Queen Wing, but forgetting to check her shoulder..

That sack has been a pain it has three cords
and a Digital Talking Books cartridge, that has some Pern, and more on it.

My golly gosh, today when I was facebooking, a friend of mine from the Netherlands found me (no it's not you, Hans) that I haven't spoken too in several years. So I'm hoping she'll add me to her "friends' list" as it'll save on postal costs. One of my Malaysian friends found me that way too. She must of gone looking on FB after I closed my postal box and a letter was returned to her. Hmm, ponders if I'm able to convince her of coming to MoM too.

My niece, the one with 3 kids, is getting married.

I took Kibby to a local winery to see it they needed help they do a lot of festivills. While there Mom asked them what they carged to do weddings. They guy said it use the whole winery, close it down it would not be open to the public was 1500 dollers. If she wanted to use just part of it 2-3 hundred dollars. He said to call his wife. When Mom called the wife she said since we lived in Concord she would let us use it for 750 dollar. It includes pool room, chairs, table, clean up, put up and even a bar tender if needed. Melissa is very excited. It is a beautiful spot.

That sounds lovely, Maw! Do they have an outdoor area as well as indoor for the wedding ceremony itself?

We are buying a new car. Our daughter's boyfriend has been driving one of our cars ever since he began living with us. (The short version of that is that while he was having gastric bypass surgery his mother "borrowed" his old car, totalled it and refused to replace it or apologize). So, since he's more a member of our family than he is hers, he drives our car. The Pontiac Grand Am he had been driving for 4 years died a couple weeks ago. Now he will drive Jeff's "old" Mazda6 and Jeff is getting himself a new Mazda3 Hatchback. He's been wanting one, so Mike says he's glad to have accommodated him by having the Pontiac engine "blow".

The wedding will be outdoors. They will provide tents. We can even get in the day before if we need to for decoration. She was thinking about a hippie wedding. Melissa was thinking a small wedding until she started to make up the list. By the time she counted her father's father family her step father's family (who is treat her like blood kin) and her mother's family had list close to a hundred. Matt wrote his family in making it 104, until his mother looked at the list and asked him what he was thing. By the time she add the rest of his family it is now close to 150. Not counting friends.

For myself, I've been very quiet lately. Still trying to spring clean my front room and YES it does look a lot tidier then a year ago, thanks to ebay, some garage sales and taking stuff to op shops (thrift stores for those who aren't sure what I mean). Planting lots of iris's lately. Worked out that I can't kill them off as quickly as some of my other plants. I've got yellow, yellow/brown, light and dark purples, purple/white and a white so far. Planted 4 that were a mystery pack so I won't know until next year what they are but the lady said there was a red one in amongst them. I've ran out of room for the moment so looks like next year's job for spring will be to clear some of the light purple ones out and swap/sell them for new ones.

We just had two earth quakes. 4 point something and 3,8 on the richer scale. my moms freaked out(and me two, i am terrified of these things) and we're sleeping in the yard tonight.

Had to take Mom to get her foot opperated on today. She's home and comfy, so that's good. She gets the other done in January. Means I am official dog walker tonight, and possibly tomorrow. Hopefully heading to a craft fair tomorrow.

We are going to a fall festival tomorrow. At the same winery my niece is getting married at. They have an indoor pool. Kibby is planning on swimming.

Fall Fest today at the nursing home. I came home with two more angels, a squirrel, a blouse, a sweater, a skirt and a jumper. Meriah came home with stuffed animals and clothes. Mom did really well walking around. Had to take her tonight to get the bandages changed...her toes sorta look like raw meat.

AnnMarie...sorry to hear about your Mom's operation, but hopefully all will be better after it's all healed up.

I love Spring and Fall...for us... both times of the year the weather is just beautiful.

My husband and I have been spending a great deal of time this summer, in trying to get rid of all the Gophers [The Great Gopher Wars] that have decided to infest our new garden...pesky little furballs... that love to eat all the roots off my roses and leave the tops to wilt and wither away...it worked for awhile, but now I am busy transplanting what's left of the rose bushes, after they've munched on them...so that I can replant them when they've recovered, back into our garden...only this time in metal cages that the Gophers can chew through...hopefully !!!

We had fun at a fall festival yesterday. My nephew Seth had lots of fun running around. We were there from 3:30 until 8:30 he was a tuckered out little boy. He went to sleep very quickly last night. He did not even whine in protest we put to bed.

Kibby enter the pumpkin chucking contest. She threw her pumpkin about 45 feet. The winner threw his 95 feet. They both painted a pumpkin. Seth tried to eat the paint. Several times. Kibby also went on the hunted trail three times. There was a live band, hay rides, swimming. They showed a movie with free pop corn and cotten candy.

For the adults they had five winerys there. Mom tasted all the wine. The only problem was there were no grab bars in the bathroom. I had to take Mom home to use the bathroom. We all had fun.

Maelin... Mom is doing fine. She she has less pain already, her big toe is straighter than it's been in years, and she is off and running!

Tonight we have Mandatory DCF (Department of Children and Families) training at work. B-O-R-I-N-G. It is the same stuff every year, and there is always some employee who wants to impress the boss and asks dumb questions at the very end, making us all stay even later!
