Last Friday (November 20th) while Ryan (My fiance) and I were having dinner before our date night I mentioned that the next day marked 4 years since Anne died; he suggested doing our wedding based on Dragonriders Of Pern.
We originally were going to do that, but then I realized no one would get it so we turned to Egypt; however with the idea brought back up I decided to call our theme simply "Dragons" however it would be all based on Dragonriders Of Pern. I am asking for ideas from fellow fans of Pern for our wedding. Our ideas so far are: A Gold Ribbon in my hair Ryan would have a Bronze Vest & Tie My Bridesmaids would wear Green Dresses Ryan's Best Man's Vest & Tie would be brown Ryan's Groomsmen would wear Blue Vests and Blue Ties Our guest tables would be named after Pern Dragons & Pern Riders Our Buffet Stations would be called Gather Feast (Ryan liked it better than Hatching Feast) If we have a special table for kids Weyrbrats Table, Candidates Table, or Weyrling's Table Our table for me, Ryan, and our Bridal Party would be called the Weyrleader's Table For the favors I was thinking Gold Eggs somewhere between the size of a dragon egg and a flitt egg Food wise I was thinking to use Pern and Earth terms and maybe include bubbly pies Any other ideas? What do you think of my ideas? I want to incorperate white more than just my dress and basic ideas as Ruth is canon to me and he deserves his place of honor in our wedding too. If you have your wedding around Easter, you could use gold covered easter eggs as the favours.
Not many meats are mentioned: wherry (turkey?) and fish are about all. I suppose you could label beef/lamb as runner beast! ![]() Somewhere, in one of the ancient threads, there's a recipe for klah. I think it involved coffee, drinking chocolate and cinnamon.

You could ask for medieval dress for people who don't understand "Pern."
Sheep and beef were always herdbeasts in my understanding. Runnerbeast would be horse. Bubbly pies would be any kind of individual fruit pies. There are recipes for Klah around - I've never been successful in making it drinkable. And we're always hearing about "Benden wine." Firelizard inspired table decorations would be nice if you had any handy craftspeople to make them. And if I was in the town I've just moved from, I'd ask Margaret Harper to provide the music, preferably with one of her smaller harps. I don't know if there is any equivalent here. Last night I heard someone play a ten stringed guitar that he'd made himself - a beautiful instrument, beautifully played. And may your espousal be happy and successful, whatever century or planet you decide to have the espousal feast on. |

unfortunately P'ter easter falls early this year its March 27th (mine is good friday March 25th) we were thinking more like June or July for our wedding. I have the Dragonlovers Guide To Pern Second Edition which I know has a copy of the Klah recipe. I know red fruit most say is like apples.
vyon yeah mostly cows and sheep I think I what I understand are herdbeasts while runner beasts are horses; I will look into seeing if anyone can make firelizard's as decorations; I don't plan to have any alcohol at my wedding unfortunately I don't want to be responsible for drinking and driving (*giggles* drinking and flying more like it in Pern terms). I was still thinking to do a DJ though for our music. I was thinking on the recipes from my Dragonlovers Guide To Pern again for the bubbly pies which have um 2 or 3 different versions. Oh that's cool the 10 string guitar. Thank you on may our espousal be happy and successful. We've been together 20 um turns I guess you could say (20 years earth terms) 10 of them we've been engaged. |

I was waiting at a wedding (one of a number over the summer) were they'd name labelled each seat and provided each guest with a carefully chosen book (vintage Penguin type) and a bottle of home brewed alcohol; most of them fruit based.
Unfortunately most of them were live yeast types and we had to reset a number of tables when the bottles of ones made with raspberries let fly with a stream of pink foam that was more like foam plastic. We were having to clean the ceiling more than once; and a lot of folks were having to change into travel clothes somewhat earlier than they'd anticipated.

P'ter - Quite interesting on that
Kugai - *laughs* I am indeed a trekkie, however I at one time considered doing a Klingon Wedding I've since decided against it (though I've had the great honor of meeting Marc Okrand) |

another idea that came to my mind tonight (December 1st, 2015) is that I will wear a traditional white dress for the ceremony, but have a gold sash around my waist and the gold ribbon in my hair, but for the reception change into a Gold Dress

You could still wear white ...
... to show your status as a marriage 'candidate'. :-)

Or a candidate for a dragon?
Anne described a wedding a couple of times - what did the bride wear there? Oh - "espousal" was the word used, wasnt it? I like that one

I think by the Ninth Pass the traditional wedding color was red, wasn't it?
You could do dragon-color-theme centerpieces--there's lots of Etsy vendors who do cute dragons things that might work. Someone way back when at GenCon was selling origami dragons in Pern colors (not OFFICIALLY, of course, but still)--they would make neat favors if you know someone who could do it! |

the reason I was thinking the gold for the reception was to represent a gold dragon since Ryan (My fiance) would be wearing Bronze to represent a Bronze Dragon

Bubbly pies would be good as well. Maybe you could get the Pern C.Ds and add some of the songs into the play list at the reception.

mawra: glad you like the idea of the bubbly pies which I did note up at the top about bubbly pies.
I have the idea for doing the Eggs by using paper Mache by using balloons as the base and then making the Egg shape by using paper Mache and leaving up at the top open to insert favors and then close it up and painting them either all gold or each one a different Dragon/Flitt color. I have already blown up 3 balloons (one I left at Ryan's house) 1 smaller about what I think might be the size of a Flitt Egg and one right in the middle of a Dragon and Flitt Egg (I'd need the huge balloons to do a Dragon size Egg) I also came up with an idea of maybe doing our wedding (if possible) during our Renaissance Festive. |
