Default Not Floating down the River

We're still alive over here - we're about to list our house for sale, so we've been extremely busy getting the place ready! There have been so many little jobs....

The boys have finished school, Oldrider has a new job and my job has been renewed. Oldrider is working away from home again though

The floods that hit the Severn River haven't affected us, as we're right down in the tidal zone (the banks are about 1mile apart in this section of the river). Thankfully we haven't had much trouble with traffic or water restrictions, but friends of ours moved into a new house in Tewksbury 3 weeks before the floods!

Anyway - hope everyone is extremely well and enjoying their summer/winter!

Well, it's good to know you haven't been washed away. Good luck selling the house! A place in the dry should be looking really good to a lot of people just about now!

Glad to hear you and yours are not affected by the disasters that seem to strike Britian these days.

Looking forward to hearing more news on the new house!

Good luck

Have you found/purchased a new house yet? Our cats are most pleased that in our new place they have a dry, finished basement area to play in as well as the main floor and upstairs. Also, the finished basement was a perfect "excuse" to get the ping pong table we've all been wanting and had no where to put it.

My thoughts go out to those who are flooded and without water and power! I've been in a situation of being without both for a week or so and it is not a good thing. Fortunately we were never flooded, the power/water loss was winter storm related.

Cilla - have you sold up?

We've found the perfect place - with room for chickens and lizards! Not in the same part of the house, of course. Now we just have to sell ours so we can get moving!

Yes we have, Apo! Wait a moment, link to photobucket on the way. . .

http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ream%20Houses/

There you go! That's also the two new cars (Mazda 6's), the one with the spoiler is Fred's, because, well, he is "spoiled" you know! The other is mine. That leprechaun in the green room? That would be the elusive Fred. He picked that color, we've titled it Mountain Dew green. He likes it!

We are truly starting to feel at home. While the old place had a beautiful water view, we were "land poor". Now we have a lovely new house, and money to do extra, fun things!

That dolphin picture is my latest completed cross stitch. I always say I'm not going to start something complicated anymore and then a pattern like that comes along and I can't help myself.

I love the Rubbing picture of the knight...where did you get it... did you do it yourself??? It looks like you live in a very lovely area...and I hope that you truely enjoy your new home.

No, I'm not an artist. My daughter did a lot of the watercolor paintings on the mantel over the fire place. My son and daughter both took art lessons for about 5 years and I think they are both talented, but they've pretty much given it up. Maybe they'll get back to it later in life. My son did a gorgeous pencil drawing based on the Dolphins of Pern cover. If I remember, I'll take a digital of it and post it. The knight rubbing I'm very proud of. I didn't do it. When I was at college in England in the early 70's a friend of mine did many gorgeous rubbings. When he and his girlfriend were getting ready to leave for the states that particular rubbing wouldn't fit in their luggage so I inherited it! When I got it home my mom had it laminated and framed. It's never been hung before, I think it was waiting for just the right "spot".

We do have a lot of cool art, now that I think about it. In the dining room we have two beautiful original Currier and Ives prints of ships! I think I'm a very lucky person that even though I can't draw or create music, I've managed to surround myself with what I like!

Well I wouldn't never say that you weren't an artist ...especially after getting to see a glimpse of your fantastic cross-stitch work. I would love to see more of it...do you have photos of more pieces that you have finished.
Your children might indeed surprise you at some point in their lives by going back to their artistic roots. Artistic talents are something that just can't be denied...and it comes out to haunt you at the strangest times...

P.S.I also loved the sepia toned portriat you have hanging up..

I'll try to get some more pictures taken of my cross stitch. I honestly don't think of it as art, though. There are different levels of the "craft" and I think I'm pretty good at it, but I don't draw my own designs, I only follow the patterns. Thank you, though! Oh, wait. Last year I won first in the Misc. Art category at AMCF for my dragon cross stitch picture. Linkety link coming up!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...agonCastle.jpg

The sepia drawing has a very rich history. That is of a very special family friend named Reynolds Evans. He was an actor on Broadway for many years. Usually he played character parts, such as The Butler. However, that particular drawing is of him as the lead in a play called The Green Goddess! I have a number of playbills of his and several photographs of casts he was in, including one that Billie Burke was in, which she signed for him!!
