Default What The White Dragon First Looked Like (tor.com)

Just got posted: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/12/ann...-whelan-sketch

I've seen this before and I'm sure a lot of you probably have too. Still pretty to look at anything Michael Whelan!

Nice! Wonder why it's on a TOR site thought but glad that it surfaced and Michael found it.

I'd guess because it looks like Whelan blogs there sometimes...

My question: I hadn't looked that closely at the Dragonwriter cover before. Obviously, one of the ships, etc. But it's apparently a queen. Who's the rider?

From the top of my head the cover for Dragonwriter is one of the prelims/studies Whelan did for All the Weyrs of Pern; so if it follows the story it could only be Ramoth, I suppose.

I have a nice framed large version of this cover (Dragonwriter). I'll take a picture of it for a Collector's Highlights series It looks amazing not wrapped around and with the portrait of Anne in the corner rather than on the back.

Are you offering to do a Collectors Highlight? If so, please be our guest, the only request is to follow the numbering Cheryl, Becky and I used! :ok:

I'll have to do that when I move to my new house since I got everything boxed up right now, but sure! If I can remember. Loved that art so much, happy my wife got me this for my b-day.

I was using my CCTV to read Dragonwriter, and in the Acknowledgments Todd thanks Whelan for providing Anne McCaffrey with her last cover.

So I think its Anne on a Gold Dragon.
