Default I've got my bronze pin

Over here when you give blood you get a bronze pin after 10 donations.
I got mine today!
I went to give blood yesterday but it was too busy so I left lab early today (well, I've only theory to do and I'd got the journal article I went in for and delivered the pudding rice (don't ask)) instead.
I didn't realise it was my 10th donation!
So now I have a shiny pin thing and a sore arm!

Congrats! I'm anemic a lot of the time, so can't give blood. However, I have gotten a fair few blood transfusions, so I'm incredibly grateful to those that do!!

Well done! ^^

I plan on giving blood the next time the people come 'round near to where I live. A friend's agreed to come with me though...since I have a stupidly big phobia of needles...all for a good cause though eh? ^^

I got up to eight, but I've got fragile veins. So every time I donated I'd walk out with a pressure bandage and a sling. Not a good advert to blood donors!

the last lot I gave was when I had some measles antibodies they wanted for leukimic kids; so they took my unit, centrifuged off the serum and put the packed cells back in me. Worth a bandage:-)

Well done Edi! I used to give every 8 weeks, and think I made it to 2 gallons donated (16 donations). Then I stopped given when I started trying to get pregnant, and haven't picked it back up since having the kids, but I will someday when I don't have to arrange for babysitting to do so.

My husband has continued to give about every 8 weeks for years now, I'm sure he's donated over 10 gallons by now.

don't have the anaesthetic- it honestly hurts more! And don't look at the needle- you can't really see it though.

P'ter- everyone has bandages now- new policy!

Good Job Edith!! I volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Program here in Ontario for about 2 or 3 years before politics took over and used the Red Cross as a scape-goat over the Aids contamination scandal. I'm afraid I haven't given blood since then......the new organization wants people to set a time....like a doctors appt .....my scheduale doesn't allow for that. (My doc appts are on Mon ONLY....my day off!!)

Sorry....I spouted!! My congratulations to you...great job!!

I can't give blood because I spent a year in the UK in the 1980s. Fear of BSE contamination, I suppose.

CONGRATULATIONS EDI !!!! you sould be proud of yourself...and anyone else that takes time out of their lives to give something so precious...Life...to someone else.

I gave for a while, but it caused me to have migraines afterwards, so I was told that I couldn't give anymore witout serious health conserns... I was the only one in the family that was tested that ended up able to give...drat!!!

They have a long list here of can and can nots- they approached me and 2 friends the other day- initially to ask if we'd seen a yellow banner flying around anywhere, but the conversation turned to donations and I was the only one who could.

Congratulations, Edi!

I have wanted to give blood but was told that since I am on antipsychotic medication that I would not be allowed to.

I haven't tried since I was told that.
