Default Pern Songs on YouTube

I subscrib to a few Filk posting sites, on man is posting the older music that is OOP. He has posted most of the StoryTeller filk collection on Youtube. My favorite is The Running Song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpr5nSsGW-I

This recording was done in the 80's, I know because I sang them to my girls before they went to sleep at night. it is nice to know they are safe as my copy of the tape died.

Thanks for posting that KitiKatz! I mst say I like Mike and Tania's music and songs much better than the old filk by Anne Prather. Still, it belongs to Pern's history and the cassette is a definite collectors item. Filk was big in those days.

Nice to hear somebody else's take on some of the songs And as you said, they needed to be open to the public to be safe for the future and our collective memories.

Thank you for posting this, I went to the site and listened to all of the Pern - related songs. To tell you the truth, I prefer Tania's and Mike's versions of the songs (at least those on the MHoP album, cause I hadn't heard the DSinger related one, just a few songs), although sae that she shares fro their album are good. I like Moreta's ride (I'm so happy that is included, and I like her lyrics) and Southern Lands the best, hate the March of the wings (which has another name), Seas boil (the Red star passes on the MHoP CD), which I think has no rhythm whatsoever. The Golden Egg of Faranth is called the Weyrwomen song and is part good part bad, and so are the Question song (I liked it when she started singing the second verse), the Fire Lizard song, Brekke's Lament (it doesn't have that owe and feeling of anticipation as on the DSinger CD. Petiron's song is also very good (mind you, I didn't hear the DS version). First Fall is also good.

Talisath, FWIW I think the second CD (Dragonsong) is (much) better than the first.

Go hear some of the previews on CDbaby here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/amtomf

Information you don't need: Sunset's Gold is my favourite as that has always been my favourite MCafrey poem! (well, the song is a combo of two poems, but it still is my all time Opland and Freeman fav)

The Rowan is my favourite!

"The name rowan is believed to derive from the Norse runa - "a charm". It was often planted outside houses to ward off witches. On May Day a spray of rowan leaves was hung over doors to repel evil, and wells dressed with rowan to keep witches away. The rowan, or mountain ash, is found commonly in Scotland, sometimes clinging to a rock face."

Hans, like I said, I don't have the Sunset's Gold CD, and only heard a couple of songs over the Internet. Menolly's songs are OK to me, but I think Robinton's are better. But nevertheless, this is a site worthy of checking, and I'm glad I did, and would advise anyone who likes Pern to do the same. The may not like it so much, but an effort was put into making this music and these songs and you have to respect that.
And thank you for the site for the Sunset's Gold CD.

Also thanks for the links Brenda! I have two different types of headphones, and listen to the music is helping me to adjust the fitting on one, get use to the other one, for it has a microphone on it.

Thank you

When I went to Ireland last January and actually got to visit Anne McCaffrey, I sang the Question Song for her. My mom and Gigi (Anne's daughter) both said it was amazing watching this sudden connection between us - and that song is so spooky! I also sang the fire lizard song. It was so wonderful; up to that point I had been feeling really awkward talking with her, but that made it all worthwhile.

Seriously, there was a period during which I was starting to feel like Menolly, because I kept getting these tunes in my head and had to write them down!

I get those periods sometimes with my stories. I once had a dream and when I woke up, it got me thinking what a great story it would make, so I turned the lights on - it was 5AM - and made some pictures as skeches (I never write senteces as I get an idea for a book, but rather draw the pictures I see in my head - it's always easier for me to write the story down by looking at the pictures than reading what I wrote. I suspect it's from my younger days when I used to draw. Glad all of it didn't vanish.)
But seriously, Brenda, I never knew those songs on YouTube were yours! I saw them so many times when I would listen to the MHoP on YouTube so I would listen to them as well, and always think what a great voice the singer has. Nice work! Did you try accompanying yourself on a instrument or giving it to someone else? I played the music to the MHoP songs ''Wheel and Turn'' and ''The Question Song'' on the piano as I used to play it in music school (but only those two, as I don't have the MHoP songbook and only found these songs over at Mike's and Tania's page). It took me a while to get the hang of it, as I didn't play for a long time, but eventually, playing the CD as well as to not miss the beat, I managed it. Even tried putting some accords down for the left hand myself for ''The Question Song''.

Well, I just answered my own question when I found the link on YouTube to you singing the ''Fire lizard song'' with someone plying besides. What's the instrument that we hear? I'm hearing a string instrument at the beginning as a flute near the end.
