A Packrat's Love

As much as I love to collect things, I love to craft things!

A page of poetry I have done . . .
Doodles in the middle of this page . . .

I've got to scan some of my jewelry into the computer so I can show it . . .

My costume. Heh. Believe it or not - it is made from burlap. The skirt is simply a length of fabric rolled up and elastc put in at the waist. the rough edge I hand knotted -down the length of the skirt. the top was a bit more complicated and I had the devil of a time getting the one sleeve put on right. I ended up having it wrong side out - 5 times. But the sixth time was the charm! They were just circles of burlap lined with moray taffeta. I used an old antifreeze jug (from Dad's shop) to make the hat and covered it with moray taffeta and had the rest as a veil. The cover is light blue felt. I used my old Campfire science beads for the fringe and irned on the IDIC. Under the veil on the left I had ironed some 'Vulcan script' like in the booklet I got the idea from. The head piece and belt I made from metal. I had to sand some of the coating so I could paint it. I cut the piecs as I wanted and smoothed the edges on dad's bench grinder at the shop. I painted it copper and glued little oval pieces of fake turquoise to the headpiece and the big piece of the belt.. I took a piece of web belt from the fabric store and used shoelace to tie the 3 pieces of the belt on. the headpiece had pockets in the taffeta to slide into. The neck of the top wasn't looking like I wanted so I took a piece of double knit and made a tube to slip over my head. Made it look like I had an undershirt under the top. It really didn't itch, but was a bit heavy.
The picture (here mid-page) was taken before I went to the first TrekExpo. George was really interested in how my belt was made. So was John. George even returned my Vulcan salute ! He was really sweet. (George = Sulu and John = Q)
When I wore it to one of the last OKON at the old Camelot Inn, I had taken my gray witches streak and braided it to hang out from under my hat. I had a couple of guys pull it thinking I was too young (at 22 then) to have real gray hair. I showed them it was real and attached and not colored. I got second place that time.

I have some I made with pony beads and then I have some jewelry I made with rice, seed, and varying sizes of faceted beads. I have used other beads as well.
I made a bookmark for my dad but it still hangs on the rear-view mirror in the war wagon.
I have a pencil drawing I made that I am entering the fair this year . . . right now it is posted at the NKT for their Art Competition. I'll post here once it is ended.
I have to look up a shirt or the pants I did with Tri-Chem (this is fabric paint in tubes) - Dad drew the car then I transfered it over to the material.
Dad and Mom could draw. Aunt Rose was the artist - she would paint and she could sew.

I am working on moving a buch of papers from one storage place to a new one. I am sometime find some of the stranges things as I am looking for some else

The 'war wagon' is what I call the 1986 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Station Wagon. It hasn't been run since April of last year and I hope to get her going just as soon as I can afford some insurance for her. I may have to sell . . .

Ta-da ! Here is the bookmark. I used macrame on the fist five beads, then braided the 4 strands then made the cross (glued beads) knotted and frayed the ends . . . Nice to be able to plop it directly on the scanner !
