Default I apologize ...

I apologize because my username does not fit into any of Anne McCaffreys Universes. I have read most of her books however and am working on completing my collection. In fact, I recently purchased all of the Pern series that I was missing only to find that many of the ones I had purchased I already had packed away in boxes from my last move.

Ah well, my expense was my daughters gain. I gave the extras to her.

In any case, why join an Anne McCaffrey fansite using a username not even remotely associated with her writings? That is a bit of an involved story having to do with me being in the Service off the coast of what was then a war zone back about 1966. If I am allowed to stick around long enough I may share the tale. For now, I hope it's enough to say that I always try to use this username whenever I register to a forum and it's not taken already.

Having gotten my apology out of the way, I would like to bring up something that I'm sure many others have already thought of, a possible new story line. No, I'm not a writer (yet?) but I know what I like to read. After re-inhaling the entire Pern series within a matter of weeks, as well as the entire Talent series, the thought occurred to me, "Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a cross-over series something along the lines of 'Damia's Children find Pern'. There are similarities in both story arcs and I would love to see more stories from either series but would enjoy even more a merging of the two.

In closing, I am not a "rabid" fan of anyone or anything but I do enjoy a good read and find that A.I.M.'s stories are amongst the earliest ones I started with. It was a real shock to find that she had died. I just wish now that I had taken the time to try to meet her when it was still possible.

I guess I should also apologize that this is mostly an introductory topic rather than specifically about "Beyond Anne McCaffrey". If there is a better place for this topic, I hope the Admins/Moderators will take pity on me and move it where it fits in more appropriately. I've just arrived and couldn't immediately find a better place to post.

Given the genesis of this forum, has anyone heard about a website called the Dragon Cave? I learned about it in another forum I was a member of (which unfortunately closed) and I now have a stable of my own dragons. I you haven't heard of it, if someone indicates in here they are interested (and it's not considered inappropriate), I will post a link to my Dragons. At the bottom of the list is a link to the "Cave Entrance" where you may get your own dragon eggs to raise.

You really, Really, REALLY need to go and read one of D M Domini's works in progress.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/273190/chapters/432391

It *is* incomplete and updated irregularly, but I think it'll be right up your street.

Thank you! I was almost all the way through last night when I was "forced" to go upstairs for dinner. Looking forward to reading the rest today and hope it gets finished soon.

I started watching Star Trek when it first came on but not on TV. I remember the first episode I saw was on-board a U.S. Aircraft Carrier (the U.S.S. Intrepid) while we were off the coast of Viet Nam flying Ops there. I was in an iffy mental state for various reasons and was trying to make a decision. I asked myself, "What would Spock do?" and the decision I made means I am still here to post in forums. That's why I try to use some form of the name as a username, email, etc as a reminder.
