Hurrrray R'na......I hope you never have to go again !!!

Samsara...OH NOOOOOO YOUR NOT....I hate dentist, way more than you do, with probably more reason to.
Once about 14 years ago I went in for a root canal (root removal) and the dentist broke one of the tiny drills off inside the root, something that does on occasion happen.
Instead of pulling the tooth then and there as they normally do, he didn't say anything about the broken drill brush, but instead packed up the tooth with the drill bit still inside, as if he was finished and sent me home.... 24 hours later I was in the worst pain you can imagine. I couldn't even lightly touch the side of my very swollen face.
Long story made shorter...
$1000.00 dollars and two oral surgeon specialist with a ton of antibiotics and the tooth was pulled and the raging infection was stopped.
The dentist in question lost his right to practice...turned out he was having a nervous breakdown, right in the middle of mine and a fewother patients treatments....UGGGG!!

Maelin, OMG - you win.

That is by the far the WORST dentist story I have EVER heard. It makes me shudder just thinking of it. I'm glad he lost his right to practice, he doesn't deserve to be a dentist by the sound of. Good lord, if he was having a nervous breakdown, he should have stopped practicing until he had recovered. Did you sue him? I would have sued him.

I won't even let the dentist clean my teeth if I am awake. They can also completely forget about trying to give me an injection. The last time I went to the dentist, I actually went to a hospital instead. I made them knock me out completely with anisthetic before they touched me. They cleaned my teeth, gave me a filling & removed two wisdom teeth.

After hearing your story though, I think I'm a worse dentalphobe then before. If that is possible....

The year (1961) that I had my crowns done I logged up 124 hours in the chair in one year. The work was done by the students at the Dental Department of Guys Hospital, London and the time was so long because every time they'd done the next bit we had to wait for the lecturer to come and pass it. I was there so much I used to go out with them for coffee mid-morning and, on a couple of occasions, competed for them in road races.

My worst horror story was on my honeymoon (1970), my bride had an abcess so we went to the only dentist in the area. He had Parkinson's and I had to hold his wrists steady so that he could carry out the treatment.

Congratulation, R'na, that's a great success, and a huge relief!
I always hated dentists (truth be told, I hate doctors in general - as soon as I see a white doctor's coat, I get dizzy and have the urge to be as far away from that place as possible! And the smell of hospitals - UGH!) It was torture for both me and my parent to take me to dentists when I was a kid (although, it didn't get much better when I grew up either). Further more, I never allowed them to give me an injection, as I was horrified of needles, so it was even more torture. Pulling out the teeth was OK by some extent, but trying to fix them - I was horrified of the sound of instruments, I think, more then I was of the process itself. I have very sensitive teeth and they would usually react while we were on a holiday on a mountain or at sea, probably to the temperature, but I was so afraid, because I knew I would have to go to the dentist, that I never complained and would just tolerate the pain.
So by the age of, what, 16/17 I had such bad teeth I never smiled on photos or on the camera. At that time, my mum started going to a new dentist, and somehow talked me into going as well, at least to see how she works. I swear to God, the woman is a miracle worker! She has such kindness in herself that it's hard to even express it. She talked to me about my phobia, and just started with examining the teeth. I agreed to come to her to fix them, but she couldn't find a place until 3/4 month after that, but because my teeth were in such bad condition, she would call me whenever someone dropped out. She was such a great dentist I have no fear any more, and go to her myself on regular controls and whenever she calls. And, my teeth look great! I had my picture taken a couple of days back for the graduation from high school, and smiled as widely as I could.
I think doctors are also very responsible for our phobias. If you go to someone who just does his work, no talk, no warmth, he does nothing to make you feel better, and just probably makes things worst. And if you see your annoying him by being afraid, that does nothing to your nerves.

I love going to the dentist because he's a nice and fun guy.

Seriously, he is, but the former still ain't true of course Although I'm one of those lucky guys that has perfect dentures except for the fact that I had both my wisdom teeth pulled. One because it needed to go, the other preventive and by my own request. The needles of the local aenastethic didn't even hurt (he's that good).
And yes, both wisdom teeth as I am a mutant and I only have two. We don't really need them anymore so mothe nature is deciding to get rid of them. We'll soon have kids with no wisdom teeth!

Jst thought I sould through in a postive experience

I read this early on, had some problem putting into words, needles, that would depend on the person do it. I've had a bad time as a kid, had more then my share of problems, and to make matter harder, I was having a bad reaction to some of the 'fine work they done, for my inability to tell them I need a special hypo-clear plastic, for it and my very body don't see eye to eye, with it. But when I get time I shall have update my image here and you can see what I mean, thanks to all the dang medication I took as a kid.

Being light sentive too is hard too. But good to hear that your mouth work is done, and Dan J had all his removed for he been takeing some medication longer then I have.
