We were forecast to get 1-2 inches of snow yesterday but lucked out and got less than an inch. Unfortunately the arctic cold has settled in and it's going to be in the single digits (farenheit) tonight with wind chills below 0. I'm planning on curling up with a good book.

We are suppose to 0 to 5 inches. Sin2it coming from the south it's likely to closer to the 5 inches.

Now they are saying closer to 6 inches. and it will be icy. I don't mind some snow. It is the ice I don't like.

A very light dusting of snow here in Holland, too. Temps are only a few degrees below zero Celsius.

We've had a visit from friends living in Holland. The youngsters were dressed in shorts and t-shirts. I bet they are not looking forward to returning home.

Lovely summery weather for Christmas, but dull windy and, in my area anyway, not too warm. For the middle of summer!

To say nothing of the earthquakes !!!!!

Hard to stay away from earthquakes unless you can instantly learn to fly. I was caught in a minor tremor once, when I was in Alaska. Hard to figure out what to do when the earth starts moving under you. Climb a tree? Not gonna work. Flap your arms really, really hard and try to gain lift? You suddenly realize that's not such a bad idea. Anything is worth a try when the Earth shakes right under your feet.

I was in the Dudley quake of Sept 02, which was only a 5.0. That was bad enough.

5 is pretty nasty!!!

I've sat in my chair, paralyzed! and watched stuff bounce around and fall. And when it's over you do the rounds of the house hoping not too much has broken. And you check the furniture you've anchored to the wall and thanked your lucky stars that it is. And move ornaments further back on the shelf so they don't fall on the floor next time.

And that's just for a small earthquake!!!!!

And to think that the supermarkets STILL pack stuff on shelves without anything to hold them in the event of a shake!!!!! You can imagine the mess. And the smell!

I didn't realize that you were supposed to hit people with horseshoes at all. Guess I've been playing the game all wrong. I've always thrown at the iron stake, not my opponent.

In terms of traditional quoits -- no. In warfare, actually yes -- in olden days cavalry horses were sometimes fitted with spiked horseshoes with which to kick the enemy.

So what you're saying is that a cat that's either healthy or on the mend is a cat that's a pain in the rear. Sounds about right to me, based on our two.

Trying to dodge a black cat on a black carpet in a dark stairwell. Her favourite spot is usually the middle of the step above where I'm standing. Fortunately, she's a full-blood Siamese cat and yowls a lot.

Russian blues are quite vocal also. They're dark grey, which helps camouflage them in dark, shadowy areas that are ideal for stepping on cats.

I once made the mistake of taking a car through carwash with a cat inside: an interesting experience. Apart from the excruciating yowling noises I could swear the cat levitated with all her claws inserted in the seating.

Taking a car through a car wash can be very scary.
As for a black cat in a dark passage way - the first thing I thought of was a fluorescent collar for the cat! Or better lighting of course. You take care there, Vyon
We have a "stable door" on our front door - door is in two halves and you can open the upper one and still keep the lower one closed. Or locked. On the rare occasions they've both been open neighbouring cats and dogs have been in to have a look around.

With Oden once she's feeling it is 4 footed who suffer. When we yell at her toss her off anything that that irritates her she takes it out on the first. Critter she comes to first

I don't know how many of you are friends with Ginny on Facebook, but it looks like she is going to lose what is left of her vision. She posted that the blood vessels that feed the corneas are narrowing and there is no fixing it. Prayers and healing thoughts are needed. She and Dan J have had way more of health problems than either need or deserve.

I know, because she has mentioned it in the past, that she does have some type - audio/audio - type software installed; which will help.

She's had problems learning how to use it and was hoping for some one-on-one tuition.

I've used vision-impaired software myself, (An early version of JAWS, and another one that turned text to spoken word) and while it was some time ago, it was very complex and still needed the input of a sighted person to prune out things like headers and footers and page numbers, etc.

Jaws spoke in a very irritating robotic American accent - telling you where the cursor was and being a platform for other specialised programmes. Dragon NaturallySpeaking didn't like my New Zealand accent, though it was fine with Maori words - except Maori, which it rendered as "more he." It also needed reading through when it couldn't figure out what I'd said or rendered "bazaar" as "bizarre." I only used the OCR part of the text to speech programme, but watched sighted peer tutors spend hours prune out the extra bits before the scanned text became something like a talking book for the blind law student that was using the programme.

I know Ginny has JAWS, but I'm not sure what kind of backup she has. I miss her on this board and hope she does well with her health and with her new softwar.

After putting many miles on her old Mazda3 driving to school 2 days a week to get her Master's degree (while working full time) - our daughter has gotten a new car. Her boyfriend has a Subaru Forester, she decided on a Subaru Impreza sedan. Ahhhhh, that new car "smell!" Oh, and the Master's degree is finished as well!

Does said clock go "cookoo"? Or something far more sinister?
