Jube: well .. a waterfront cafe.
Lily: not in this photo. The arcade is actually on land in the building you have to go through to get out on the pier.

East coast? [That sun looks a lot more like it's rising than setting. Fewer people around at dawn than at dusk...]
-of course, there IS one spot on the east coast with a pier where you can watch the sun set over water, so I could be both wrong and right on this one! |

Jube: yes (you're second: Kath PM'd me yesterday.)
The original pier was built in 1900. It was shortened from around 200 yards to around 75 yards in 1939 to stop the Germans from landing on it. My mother remembers swimming round the end of it (accompanied by a friendly fishermen in his boat) and her older siblings used to go on holiday by sea from London to Southwold while the rest of the family went by train) In 1951 the bad storms (and floods) broke a chunk out of the middle of what was left. I remember a USAF pilot flying his jet through the gap and ripping out the electric cable that fed the safety light out on the end of the "island". This full 200 yard replacement was built in 2000 and has just been put up for sale at £6M.
