I have read a number of books by this author, particularly in his No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. According to his bio he was born in what is now Zimbabwe and taught law at the University of Botswana. The series is about a "traditionally built" woman of Botswana who is a good judge of character. She opens a tiny office and with the help of her secretary solves some very interesting local mysteries. These are easy stories to read and according to my friends in South Africa they are true to the culture and life of Botswana, where they are set. Mr. Smith also writes several other series set in England. I've just purchased his latest detective agency book on my Nook and I'm about to have a good read.

Yes, I find that series delightful. I also enjoy anything else by this author.
I'm thinking they are set in Scotland rather than England though???

You could be right about that. I've only read a couple and it's been a while. I'm having a good time with this latest book in the detective series.

Yeah: the '44 Scotland Street' series set in Edinburgh.
