Default Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I recently finished reading Cinder by Marissa Meyer, the first book in what is slated to be a trilogy (I think), and really enjoyed it.

At it's heart it's a retelling of Cinderalla, but wonderfully re-imagined in a science fiction setting. Cinder is an cyborg - a human with advanced electronic prosthetics to replace missing limbs - on a future earth where cyborgs are treated as distant second class citizens with few rights. Prince Kai is in line for the Emperor's throne of a large region of earth encompassing China and surrounding areas. There's an external threat to Kai and all of earth from the Lunars, the colonists of the moon whose leadership have developed psyonic abilities to manipulate others.

The writing style is easy, the characters likable, the world-building well-done, making it an easy book to get sucked into.

A good review of it is found on the Tor.com blog. For those with an ereader, you can download the first 5 chapters for free. (Which is what I did, then I bought the full book while waiting for a root canal. I love technology!)

I got to listen to this one and really enjoyed it so much that I have read it twice now. I can't wait for the next books. It was an amazing twist to a classic tale.
