I know a lot of people really like her writing. I tried to read the Wayfarers Redemption way back when and read about a chapter and was grossed out. I figured I wasn't going to read anything else by her...

Then my mum (we mail books back and forth) sent me Threshold. Its not in a series, so I thought I'd give it a try... And its seriously good! A bit scarier than I like, but it kept me reading.

The idea is that a group of people, known as Magi, are building a pyramid known as Threshold that they believe will "propel themselves into infinity" (that's from the back of the book.) A slave glassworker can feel the glass they're lining the pyramid with, and the glass is frightened, for the portal is not what the Magi think...

Seriously good.

Yes, yes it is. It has a lovely cover (at least the US edition) with a girl holding a blue vase in front of a huge pyramid
