Default Pernese Stories

With Turn's End fast approaching, with what stories will the Pernese parents entertain their offspring?

Goldilocks and the three werries?

Or something entirely original?

Come to think of it: Pern doesn't seem to have any fiction at all. With the redevelopment of printing in the 9th pass, will the Pernese reinvent romantic fiction?

That sounds like a challenge to me. Let's see what we can come up with.

Oh yes, romantic fiction will definitely play a major role on Pern in the post printing press period!

Okay who will be writing it?

Who can come up with some suitable fanfic (written under some suitable nom de plume)?

Anyone could write one?

I like the idea of a romantic F'lar and Lessa - she did love him eventually, but their life together started out pretty rough didn't it? I'd love to see a story of F'lar romancing Lessa. Presuming he did have a tender side.

I'll try and come up with something, after NANO. Which is what I should be doing now. If I don't have a high enough word count I could add this to make up what I am behind.

I can not do anything until my computer is fixed. A cup I was drinking out of broke and spilled soda on it.

I have been thinking of a story where the legend of Santa Clause makes a child want to recreate Santa Clause

Well I've been spending wakeful nights thinking about F'lar and his more romantic side. He's turning into a mix of Rhett Butler and Mr Darcy.

One problem that Pern has is that it appears to be the only civilisation with no corpus of fantasy: no witches, goblins, etc.

Every race of man has its own traditions of such things. Mankind has not REALLY changed much. Why should Pern be any different?

Perhaps we need Eann to join in?

I think that's why I like Pern so much though. It's believable. Don't think much of fairies, goblins, etc. Or magic. Maybe because one of the most disappointing "endings" I read somewhere was when the hero had to resort to magic to get himself out of a tricky situation. If it's that easy, where's the excitement?

There's a fanfic somewhere called something like 'Ghosts in the Tunnels'.

Possibly by Brenda?

That was a really neat story. The ending made me smile and there aren't near enough things in this world that make any of us smile. Whomever wrote it did a good job.

I sure am glad I found this forum!

I am NOT a fan of soaps (that would be my mom), but they do have some good titles that could easily be Pernified:

"As the Wherry Turns"

"The Guiding Glow"

"The Edge of Between"

"The Young and the Renegades"

"Fax's Landing"

Heh! Like I said, not a fan of soaps. Some of those things have been around longer than I've been alive. It'd take another lifetime just to revamp them for Pern & briing them up to date.
However, I've already got a set that I'm supposed to be working on
