Default Some of my latest acquisitions (magazinewise)

I recently laid my hand on a stack of fanzines. Now I'm not particularly into fanzines (although they seem to fetch good prices on eBay) but I was curious enough to buy them.

One of these was the first issue of the first volume of "Weyr Watch"; the "Western Weyr Fan Club Newsletter for fans of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern". The cover is by Lela Dowling and that in itself makes it a collectible because she is one of the three illustrators of the Eclipse graphic novel publication of Dragonflight (she is mentioned as artist on all three volumes) This publication dates back to 1993, so isn't that old.
It is extra special because Larry Dixon (D'xon) was involved in Western Weyr. Where did I hear that name before, I can hear you think... well, Larry is an author and an artist in his own right (he did some artwork for this fanzine) and his character is a Weyrsinger that rides a green dragon called Mistyth... No bells yet? He lives (and still does) in Claremore, Oklahoma... Yes! He is the partner of that other great writer: Mercedes Lackey!
So, if this particular fanzine isn't a collectible, I'm not a Master Archivist!

My next find was Volume 2, number 46 of "Low Orbit", published in autumn of 1991. This magazine holds a transcript of one of the early (maybe Anne's very first) internet-interviews in forum style. This one took place via National Computer Services in "North America" [sic] and was hosted by Kermit Woodall, a.k.a. Captain Video. There's a (bad) drawing of Anne on page 12 and the whole transcript number five pages.

Last is a real treasure, holding one of the best and most special Anne interviews I know of. It's a copy of "Science Fiction Review" of Fall 1982 (number 44). It's an US magazine but the interview was taken at Adromeda's Bookshop in Birmingham, after a signing session of her latest released novel "Crystal Singer". The interviewer was Chris Morgan. One of these days I'll either scan it for you all to read, or just type it out; it's worth it!

Hope you enjoyed another peep into my collection and acquisitions

Hans, Those fanzines are fantastic I love the drawing of the dragon on the first cover...what a great find you have with these. You certainly add to them nicely with all your extra interesting information. Thank you for sharing this most unusual part of your collection. I will be in the head of the line (so to speak) to read the interview you mentioned when you put it up for all of us.

Great finds, Hans!

Don't forget to look for Low Orbit #41 from 1988. It has the article - The Dragonlady Lands in America/Anne McCaffrey on Dragonriders, Crystal Singers and Self.

Thanks for the tip, Becky, I'll be on the lookout for #41!

Did "I make" the Weyr Watch issue more special for ya then we originally thought? Or did you come to the same conclusions yourself already?

Hans, you certainly did!!! Now I'm very glad I bought it out of curiosity and glad you did too! Thanks for the info. I didn't go into the thing like you did. Was just keeping it as another 'oddball' item in my collection. Now it's not quite so odd!

{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}} for you Cheryl. I know how you feel. I've gone a bit overboard lately and the hubby is grumbling something about it being Christmas for over two months now. I should be going on collecting hiatus myself. Maybe after one more thing..........

I recieved this fantastic treasure in the mail today...not recognizing the name on the return address...I was extremely surprised when I opened it, to find a note inside of the envelope stating that this was from Hans...Thank you so very much dear friend for this wonderful gift.

This is the front as you have seen before above...

and this is the beautiful drawing on the back that you didn't get to see...By Laura Kagawa.

Once again Hans, I want to thank you for my lastest treasure

Gwina, We all had to start somewhere...and loving Anne's stories is the best place to start...the books come from that love and enjoyment.
