Teeth can be a lot of trouble and cause many health problems! I hope this will be a great help. Encouraging story: my dad had full dentures by the time he was 50. He could eat anything he wanted with them and never had any trouble. To my knowledge he never had them replaced or repaired and he lived to 82. Crossing fingers you have the same good experience!

For sure! Why do we go to such trouble to keep our teeth? They're not always very pretty anyway. I have a mouth full of fillings and several crowns.
Doesnt look too bad from the front though, I expect that's the general idea aye? I refer to going to the dentist as going to have my fillings checked and polished.

I am just about the same. Our dentist insists on twice a year "cleanings"; they are pretty much just polishing up the fillings.

My wife opted to go with full dentures and is doing better with her eating, although she still cannot bite anything off, which includes taking a bite of a sandwich. So far she's been back twice for work on the dentures. Total cost is in the neighborhood of about $3000 for everything to date.

I went the other route. Advanced periodontal disease so bad I lost one of my back teeth (as age 68, I'm missing 6 teeth, 3 of which are "wisdom teeth"). I started with a specialist and had a cleaning that went above and beyond anything you would think of. It was so deep that my mouth was shot full of Novocain and the entire process took about 2+ hours. I had no pain after 24 hours and I even chew where the last molar came out. I have one last surgery to rebuild the bone in my lower jaw to keep the periodontal disease from getting under a tooth as it is now. My specialist has thanked me twice for making him look so good. I think he has an amazing talent. Total cost has been around $450, with another $300 or so to go.

Both of these are our out of pocket expense over and above what our insurance covered.

I was born with a problem with my parathyroid glands (the ones that make Vit D) and with war-time diet .... I landed up with teeth that had large areas of enamel missing, even the 2nds. Every year or so I got paid to sit in a dental chair at one of the London teaching hospitals as a subject for the dental finalists to ponder.

In my late teens I landed up with 6 jacket crowns across the front (later 8) and then, when the 'pegs' were getting too worn landed up with partial sets of falsies, now full sets.

The dentist who made the last set worked from teen photos of me so that my teeth looked like my original grin and they're not 'Hollywood white'. As he said "there's no point in having 20 year-old teeth in a 65 year old face." The other advantage of the present set (& a 1/2) is that they fit so well that I don't have to use any adhesive to keep them in place.

The 1/2? Ah; I have a spare top set made on a horseshoe rather than a full plate which allows my palate more movement when I'm singing, so I get a bit more volume and a better tone.

I'm suppose have more done on Monday, but I have not felt well all week and still have some tender spots so I'm not sure if I want to do more now or wait until I am feeling better.

I am watching Midas an orange & white male cat, less than a year old, allow a five month old kitten try & nurse him. I'm not sure our cats are the smartest of cats.

My youngest has braces. Thankfully I have decent insurance. Even so, I'm still paying over $3000 when all is said and done.

Yup. Both of ours had braces. I think they now make a mouth rinse to help keep the teeth cleaner/less "pitting" from food getting stuck. I wish they'd had it years ago! Ah, the time our daughter left her retainer on a napkin in a restaurant and we went back a minute after we left the table only to be told everything was cleared and thrown away. Such fun times. However, they now both have beautiful straight teeth. When I look at my mouth full of fillings and a couple teeth going in odd directions, it was worth it for them!

I now have beautiful straight teeth too. Wore braces for six months on the upper jaw and seven on the lower last year, and it cost me 4,000 euros. I consider it an investment in my health, as I used to have a continuous low-grade headache caused by my severely misaligned teeth. Luckily they didn't need to move any of my molars, that's what takes so long when teens wear braces, according to my dentist.

It was decided not to pull any on Monday since I was feeling so bad. There was no infection or anything bad going on with the area they pulled already. I am feeling better so I should be able to get more work done soon. I was hoping to get it all done before Dragoncon, I don't think that is going to happen.

We have been looking around for a third car. We desperately need one. 5 adults going 5 directions with only 2 cars makes things difficult. The van we have has over 250,000 miles and is starting to need repairs ever couple of weeks.

We found a 2001 van that can be modified for Mom. A lift is being added that will bring the scooter all the way into the van, instead of having it outside like the one we have now. The front passenger seat will be leather to make it easier for Mom to slide on and a hand grab will be added for Mom to use to pull herself up with.

When we tried to explain that Mom gets into the van by standing on her one leg, pivoting until her rear is on the edge of the seat with a pad on the seat. and someone pull her the rest of the way onto the seat, the guy had a blank face. He just didn't really understand how it worked. As soon as he watched her get into the new van he understood exactly what was need. It was kinda funny to see the light bulb go off when he understood.

Kibby is very happy. We are going to really push to get her permit and the old van will mainly be used for her use. Right now for work mostly. Once she gets more experience she'll be able to go to Staunton by herself. That won't be for a while. The road is narrow and very curvy. Normally we leave Staunton around 1am. I don't want her driving it until she has more experience. Tired, new driver, curvy roads is a recipe for disaster.

Some people are wonderful at picturing a problem as explained, others aren't. I fall into the middle somewhere toward the "wonderful" side; I usually get it without a demonstration. Any good mechanic can solve a problem once he understands what it is. We're doers. We don't need an engineer to draw it up, and we don't need a politician to commission a study and make a law. We see the problem and we fix it.

Yes, we can be entertaining when the light bulb comes on!

I will be needing that surgery at some point. The technology has vastly improved since my father had the surgery nearly 50 years ago. I hope all goes very well for your wife. I can understand the relief not being the one actually having anything done!

Only one is mine. We have one that has ulcers in the back of her throat. I told Mom she was losing weight a month or more ago. She said it was just normal summer coming weight loss. I told her it wasn't. No one ever listens to me. She got to where she wouldn't go up stair with me at night. She use to run up the stairs. Mom finally made vet appt. I was right there was a problem. Oden is doing much better. We got her some canned food with lots of gravy to lap up. She is almost back to her old self.

We're back home and wife is sleeping it off. Everything seemed to go well. The surgery today is vastly different than it was even 20 years ago. They go in and replace the whole lens. The result is you can get near perfect vision as well as getting rid of the cataracts.

I had that done, and I also ending have two secondary membranes grow over mine, one in front and one in back, one they put me to sleep, and the second time was the longest five min. of my life.

My eye surgeon, told me if that the laser he had been chatting with other that work there in the Retina field, about helping me, if the laser didn't work. It did.

Now that we have been in the new house for five years we have been doing some normal house maintenance. One of the things is replace some flooring in the kitchen that is soft from water coming in the back door, back deck not put on right.

When the guy fixing the floor cut an electrical wire that was too close to the subflooring we lost power in living room. While trying to fix that problem, just splicing the wire back together did not work, we discovered that the whole house is wire wrong. VERY wrong.

While they were checking the outlets in the living room it was discovered that at least one grounding wire is hot. Even I know it's not suppose to be. the panel box is labeled wrong. Wires going direction they shouldn't go in.

We have had some minor problems, the light bulbs over the shower, and bathtub blow out with in a day. A couple of outlets that don't work. We did not realize just how bad it is. The person who was down here knows simple electrical problems. He said it had gone WAY past simple. He is send an election down to look at it and make a list of everything wrong and hopefully fix it. Right now we have electricity every where except the living room. They tried yesterday and today, but couldn't get power into that room.

We have decided that it is a good thing the wire in the floor was cut. If it had not been we would never have known there was a problem until there was a fire. Mom is calling Nation Wide Homes, the ones who built the house, tomorrow, but does not expect to get anywhere with them. The house only had a year warranty.

I replied over on the NKT, Maw, but one thing I forgot is, check & see if your state has laws concerning the wiring. The mfg. warranty usually only covers defects in materials, etc., not things like faulty construction & wiring that violate codes. The legal phrase "Right to cure" comes to mind.

Some places it is a year from the discovery.

Didn't some branch of your local authority pass the work as being fit for purpose? If they did you could have some leverage with them for THEIR failure.

We are very happy the wire got cut, and no one was hurt when it was cut.

I have the last of my bottom teeth pulled, 8 I think, yesterday. Plan for day, stay in bed and take lots of pain meds.

Hubby is taking Kibby to get her driving permit. She THINKS that as soon as she gets it she can drive where ever she wants to. She is not happy that we told her she would not be allowed to drive to Staunton, which means driving on a narrow curvy road, for a while. Nor will she be allowed to drive to Radford, where her boyfriend lives, which requires driving on interstate. Both are about 2 hours away, in different direction.

The Staunton drive would be going to a LARP and she would not leave there until at least midnight, probably later. This weekend it would mean working from 4am to 2pm, then driving to Staunton followed by driving home, usually we get home around 2am. She would then have to get up early to be at work at 7am. Nope, she is not driving there.

Am I correct that she can't drive ANYWHERE by herself?! That is how I always understood it. The point of a permit (from my understanding) is so that you can learn to drive either by taking lessons or with a licensed driver in the car at all times. Then, at some point you take and either pass or fail the written and road tests. If not, what would be the difference between having a permit or a license?!

Keep after whoever you need to for the electrical wiring!

I think your rest day after all those teeth being pulled sounds like a perfect plan!

This is our rules. For now she will be able to go to and from work, places around here. I just think that she needs some alone driving time before getting on the interstate or narrow curvy roads, especially that late at night. In a few weeks she'll be free to go where she wants.

Then I guess your "learner permits" are very different from ours (why, oh why, can't every state make the same rules?!). I am quite sure here a person with a permit is never allowed to drive alone. Even once a person gets their drivers license here they are not allowed to drive with other unlicensed people in the car UNLESS there is also a licensed driver with them, I believe that is for six months. That is intended to cut down on kids getting their licenses and immediately loading up the car and showing off (being reckless) for their friends. What is the difference between a permit and full license where you are? I'm also curious if your auto insurance will cover her as an "unlicensed driver?"

Wiring problems are never fun, especially in the US where you've got three phase power into every home. Here at least you've just got 240V everywhere in the house so only three wires to keep tabs of generally. We actually do have 440V three phase into this house - but it doesn't go any further than the distribution board - it might in a few years when we get the photovoltaic glazing installed.

Today I mostly tried to move my server into a different room (where there's a convenient cupboard for it to live in) but that turned out to be a non-starter as even our improved wireless coverage doesn't give a reliable connection in there to the level I need. It spends 90% of its time connected at 135Mb/Sec, but randomly drops down to 1...Fine for serving basic web pages, but not so much when streaming video - and given that our entire video collection is on there...Not ideal. So the whole lot got bundled back up and returned to its previous home in the master bedroom.

I then spent a significant portion of the evening doing battle with the Google Webmaster Tools Search Console which has been pinging me an endless stream of emails for the last couple of weeks complaining about what it sees as problems with my site. Firstly was a missing robots.txt which was easily enough fixed. Secondly was it reporting that there was a style sheet missing, which had me slightly baffled as I've never even considered playing around with CSS. Somehow though after a rummage through the source of my homepage I found a reference to one. Goodness only knows how it got there but deleting that line got rid of that error.

The only one left is it complaining that my site isn't optimised for mobile devices - but that's not likely to change in the near future as dealing with it is currently well beyond my very basic knowledge level. I'm just about at the putting together a page that says "hello world" on my own!

There is a learner's permit and driver license, some times it is call driver's permit. Mostly when I am lazy and don't fell like trying to remember how to spell license. I have heard it call both. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't think I'm confused about the difference between a permit and license. What is confusing (to me anyway) is whether or not Kibby will be driving by herself with just a permit. Perhaps I really was confused and Kibby now has her driver's license (not permit)?

She will have her full license and will be driving by herself. Hubby and I put restriction on where she will be allowed to drive for the first few weeks. We want her to get use to driving alone before she goes to far out of town.

Hubby may never want her to got to Radford alone, that is where her boyfriend lives.

How is your house wiring problem? I was wondering if a general inspection might not be needed? While I guess electrical would perhaps be the most dangerous, if that's messed up you don't want to have other problems later. Hopefully it is just electric!

I'm going in for Eye Surgery at some stage.

My Eye Specialist said it might be best to get the right eye regrafted after all these years as the eyesight has in that eye has deteriorated back to where it was before I had the first Cornial Grafts over a decade again. I have been expecting that as the graft in that eye never really took properly the first time.

Now just waiting for the Hospital to inform me when I have to go in,
