You have to remember that the beginning of the fourth book did not make that much sense either. Give it a chance and by the way, this book is shorter than the last one.

I've read the 6th book now, and it's... unique. *slight spoilers below*
As far as the first page goes, the minister they mention is not the minister of magic. After you get past the first couple chapter, things start to "normalize" (aka Harry shows up). |

Go back and get it again, Edith. The first few pages are a bit of a cross-over. Gets much better after that.
I was sorta right about who I thought was the Half Blood Prince after the second chapter. By the end of the book, you need a box of kleenex....and a sound-proof room so you don't disturb anyone.... Yeah, I just finished reading it. |

Yep; the first couple of chapters threw me a bit too. When I first read it, I had to rego over the first page, to be sure of what was what and stuff. Once I realised, I had no problem.
I was wrong with my guess about who the Half-blood Prince was, btw. |

And as for it being too long - 600 pages in fairly large print? Perfectly normal lenght for a book, I wouldn't have liked it a page shorter. All in all I liked the book extremely, if not all of the things that happened in it. I wasn't really pleased with how the style was much more simplistic and less dark than in book 5, but it got better near the end. I guessed who the HBP was around halfway through the book, and I'm quite pleased with myself, since I'm usually very bad at figuring these kinds of things out. I can't wait for the next one! |

HBP was not the best book. It was overly long, and didn't have the sparks of the first four, over even the fifth one. It seemed too 'set up', and just setting the scene for book 7.
It was too long for what happenned. I think that it should have been shorter, and carried on after the end. Not enough happened for the length. |

don't now what to make of it?
is it worth buying? its 100 pages shorter but thats still far too long in my book- you could cut out a good chunk of the 5th book! I think I can guess who the 1/2 blood prince is! ![]() WITHOUT reading the book! all I want to know is who made prefect? did he pass his OWLs? And what NEWTS are they taking. I can GUESS Harry's taking potions... c'mon, no more arguements with Snape!?! |

Spoilers ahoy.
Prefects are same as last time, at least for Harry and Co. Yes, Harry's taking potions. Yes, he argues with Snape. What makes you think the two are connected? (And no, he didn't get an O on that OWL. The only O on his is DADA.) And...uh...the first chapter makes perfect sense if you actually read it. |

I'm waiting patiently until either:

Funnily enough I could never really get into the HP books when the first one came out. Beisla lent me 2 & 3 and I read each at one sitting, finishing Azkaban at 4.30 this morning.

I agree about Ronald McDonald (I don't fear clowns, but I understand why kids do in these paranoid times) and Barbie (no real-life woman looks like that, she'd have to be 7 ft tall and have to have a 24 inch waist), but why Harry, pray tell?
After my last post I read the rest of the books published so far, and loved them all.

It's more the fact that I read them to my 6 year old brother and he understood them when they're aimed at people the same age as Harry

Myt, when I was six I could understand astronomy books for teenagers. It doesn't make them evil. It just means that some kiddliwinks know more than people would assume, and can read at a more adult level.
I've met teens who couldn't even read Harry Potter, btw. |

I finally got around to seeing Harry Potter this afternoon, the latest movie (of course). I only missed out on number three, but that should be on the telly next year, so I won't have long to wait. I enjoyed it, and so did my mum (the first one she's seen, btw).

My bf refuses to read it.
I read them cos when the 1st few came out before all the hype I quite enjoyed them and I now just want to see the end. Which she hasn't even STARTED yet. come on book was out in the summer, it takes time to print it as well. She's had a good 6 months to pick up a pen! Even me, when I'm fooling about have managed 44000 words in that time and I'm a slowish typer doing a fulltime degree NOT a professional author! I'm trying to read it for the 2nd time and now I'm certain my brain did some editing last time cos its so... well twee isn't quite the right word, nor victorian, possibly bad Enid Blyton in style or a stoned Lemony Snicket. v.v. trying to be gothic! |

I read in a Danish online newspaper today that the last HP book is to be written next year (i.e. 2006). The source should be Rowling's own web page. I guess I could google it - but first I'll get me some breakfast.

Once you get through the first 2 chapters, you're right after that then. As far as I'm concerned, Harry Potter, in much the same way that the "Narnia" series did, got "bums" off the computer, ps2's, xbox's etc and "noses" into books. I have all of both series and my one and only darling kiddliwinks loves hearing about Harry Potter. It got my husband back into reading books again and for that, it's better then a kick up the backside, regarding the telly etc. Nothing against the males in my family but.........sometimes there is more to life then just the "idiot" box. Okay, I've had my whinge, now you just go and read the book please. 'Cause you will enjoy it, even for the back up info, it provides.
