Anne GoH at Eurocon 2007 in Denmark! - A Meeting of Minds

This newsitem just went up at The Pern Museum & Archives

Anne McCaffrey scheduled as GoH at Eurocon 2007

Anne McCaffrey fans (especially the UK and European mainland ones), pay attention! Anne has been confirmed as a Guest of Honour at the 29th European Science Fiction Convention. Eurocon 2007 will take place on 21-23 September in Copenhage, Denmark. Other Guests of Honour made known are David A. Hardy and Stephen Baxter from the UK and Zoran ?ivkovi? from Serbia. Be sure to check out the site of Eurocon 2007 and their forum. The Pern Museum and Archives will try to keep you updated and will also try to attend. If you are a regular visitor here or at the Anne McCaffrey discussion forum A Meeting of Minds, please do send us an email if you are planning to attend Eurocon 2007.

It might be interesting to see if we could have a Euro Weyrfest in Anne's honour!

I hereby call upon all attendees to either mail me (elrhan@pern.nl) or post here to see how much interest there is for attending the Conventiuon and/or organising a Euro Weyrfest in september 2007, the year in which Pern celebrates it 40th year of "existence"

Actually those dates could be doable even if I go to DragonCon again. Very, very interested in a Euro Gather/Weyrfest.

Kath, just beware of whom under the double moons you call terrible - I can produce photos from Blackpool, York and London to prove that Kaths aren't necessarily less terrible

Anne has been known to attend Octocon in Maynooth, Eire at least for the last couple of years. Its this coming weekend this year, and I think its around the same time every year.

You should ask Anneli about it as she went in 2004. I seem to be double booked every time though.

Well, I would certainly love to go.

I've been to an animé con in Valby medborgerhus, and it wasn't a big place but not small either. It's a bit early to decide on definitely going, but I can't see what should prevent me from going, so count me in as a definite possible attendee.

I guess you would enjoy having your own interpreter of the native language.

If you want any tips about Copenhagen, don't hesitate to ask.
(It's always nice to no how to take the bus and such details. And remember that Denmark don't use euros, but have their own money called kroner.)

I actually counted on you a little, as you said it would be fabulous to have our own interpreter

Is it the time you'd have to take from work or the travel? Would things be easier if we picked you up somewhere? If that's possible of course.

Hey, I didn't say I couldn't come!
I only said, that it's a bit far out in the future to know if I can get time off from work and if somebody can take care of the parrot.

I did say you could count me in, not out, Hans.

I'm actually considering buying the "tickets" as soon as I get some money transfered to our Danish account. It's cheaper to pay in Danish kroner than in euros, and we are about to transfer some money anyway, since were are going to Denmark 2 weeks from now. If it then turns out that something gets in the way way, it will just be money lost, but hey, that's a chance I'm willing to take.
BTW - my husband (Anders) will probably be joining us.

Ooh, I wanted to sign up, but I just realised I probably ought to wait until I have moved, so I can sign up with my new address. I hope I'll remember to sign up before the year ends - cheaper that way.

A little side note: I realised the other day that I could have gone to the yearly anime con that is held at Valby medborgerhus when I was in Denmark in the beginning of November.

I truly hope that I don't forget to go to see Anne at Valby medborgerhus next year.

The year is coming to an end, so I finally sat down in front of the computer and transfered 200,- DKK for memberships for me and my husband.

Now I just have to decide which book to take, so that Anne hopefully can sign it.

Crystal singer series, Tower series, Pern..... ooh, it's a good thing that I have a couple of months to decide.

A book will be published in Danish in cooperation with Science Fiction Cirklen with works by the four GoHs (Guests of Honour; so I assume it inlcudes something by Anne; not expecting something new but certainly colelctible). It will be made available for sale at the convention.

Do I need to pick up extra copies?

Any ideas what the best way of joining up is for a Brit? There doesn't seem to a way to pay via Paypal which would have been good. If I do it before January 1st I save a whole £5-00

You can transfer money from your normal bank account using the IBAN and SWIFT numbers/address, which you find when clicking on 'membership' in the menu, although, it will probably cost you a fee of some kind.

In the newest newsletter it says:

The Brits seem to have to pay an excessive amount of cost for an international banktransfer; there's a post about this in the forum.

The advice given is to contact ther London/British contact, Dave Lally. You might want to email the organisation to ask how.

Yes! I don't think i'll be able to make it there. My dissertation will be due in on the 17th September and I won't have had any time to actually make enough money to afford to be able to go.

And I'll have to actually get a job at that time as well... *shudder*

The year is coming to an end, so I finally sat down in front of the computer and transfered 200,- DKK for memberships for me and my husband. Now I just have to decide which book to take, so that Anne hopefully can sign it. Crystal singer series, Tower series, Pern..... ooh, it's a good thing that I have a couple of months to decide.

A book will be published in Danish in cooperation with Science Fiction Cirklen with works by the four GoHs (Guests of Honour; so I assume it inlcudes something by Anne; not expecting something new but certainly colelctible). It will be made available for sale at the convention. Any ideas what the best way of joining up is for a Brit? There doesn't seem to a way to pay via Paypal which would have been good. If I do it before January 1st I save a whole £5-00 (yorkshire lass speaking now )

The Brits seem to have to pay an excessive amount of cost for an international banktransfer; there's a post about this in the forum. The advice given is to contact ther London/British contact, Dave Lally.
