A RED bear?

This is my wife, looking out over the Irish Sea at Greystones (after whhich Greystone on Pern is named), near Anne McCaffrey's home in County Wicklow:

One of the two bridges connecting the island I live on with the next, crossing the river Maas (Meuse, originating in France) close to where I live. The bridge dates from the late fifties.

I have some catching up to do. Pam, as usual you have found some stunning scenery. Dragon Fan, yours is amazing too, and I love Blondmom's little red bear.

This is Longniddry beach, near Edinburgh, photographed last weekend on a cycling trip. A couple of graduated filters have been applied in Photoshop to stop the sky being burned out. (One day I'll try a proper "high dynamic range" image of this beach...)

I'm planning at trying my hand at some HDR too, Steven
I recently red that you can also create it from one RAW pic (I shoot everything in RAW and LJPEG) too, so I can even cheat a littel and try that technique

I love your beach shot becasue of its drama and especially since there still is some colour in it from the weeds.

Thanks Hans. This was a single RAW image but I didn't process it as an HDR. The original shot was 1 stop underexposed to stop the sky being blown out, and in Photoshop I applied top to bottom and left to right gradient filters to increase the exposure at the bottom and left and balance the image. It created an effect that looks a little like an HDR.

One day I'll have a tripod with me so I can take the series of images needed for a "proper" HDR. But not while I'm cycling.

AnneMarie, I forgot to say I like the symmetry in your picture. The scene looks very much like a Scottish loch in the Trossachs.

That's what I meant Steven. They say that if you have a RAW shot you can make an HDR pic anyway because you can apply the under- and overexposure in stops to the RAW image, saving each sperate image, and then process those 3 or 5 pictures to get an HDR, either with photoshop or other application.

No tripod needed in that case

Which is my problem too

And I agree with this photo showing some HDR effect because of your photoshop work.

as long as your camera has the possibility of manual overexposure and underexposure, you could. It might need reading up on HDR (High Dynamic Range) though...

Thanks Blondmom and I'm not sure why the kidlet reminds you of Piemur, AnnMarie but my only guess is from living on the southern continent.

I forgot to add that the photo was taken at Lakes Entrance on the southern coast of Victoria on the eastern side of Melbourne.

I've posted both of these before, but I've lost almost all my old digital camera files in a hard drive crash, so here they are again.

This was taken from the middle of Paddy Creek, in the rain.

A creek on my back 40, after one of the storms that came into Missouri in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike.
While neither are rivers, they're the best I can do.

Seeing as how this thread has been laying idle since August, I thought I could get away with putting up 4 pics instead of two, especially since they all go together.

The Missippi River, south side of St.Louis when we were there for Oktoberfest.

These 3 were a small tug that was moving barges to a bigger tug for travel, just upriver from the first scene.
