But it would sure would have come in handy, and I was berated for leaving it at home, when my hubby found all of those old magazines, and we had no way of being sure which ones that we needed, or which ones had all the goodies in them without reading through the huge stack. Next trip I will have it glued to my side if I have to.

Yes I will have a lot of fun going back, the store owners were a fun lot, and as long as I take along my mask for all the dust, I won't have too many problems diving face first into the huge pile of magazines.

BECKY.....

I looked it up but you forgot to add the photo to it. Just curious but do you want us to add to it as well when we find something that's not on the list via mom or email. Sometimes there are tidbits that can be picked up but one doesn't always know about it.

Jube, I redid the links, thanks for letting me know. But I've also imbedded the same pictures in the original post. So folks can see them there too.

Once you own the guide you can do with it as you please. I left spacing so that you can add your own finds. You can enter whatever you want in the spaces, either a check mark to indicate you have it or add the price you paid for the item. Mark it up as much as you want, it's mean to be USED.
It is by no means complete, it was mainly to list the first appearance of a story in magazine, hardcover and paperback format and help keep track of a collection. There are some items that are not the first appearance, but are a neat item in themselves. As others have said, a collectible is a collectible if someone wants to collect it.

I thought so too! It's great to have one handy when in a book store or by your computer.
You can pay for the guide by either check, money order or paypal. You can send me a pm with your address and how you want to pay and with any other questions you might have.

Thank you for your interest!

Cheryl, Thank you for posting that link, it works pretty good if you know how to spell already. For us dullards...it is good to have a book that you can scan through, and hopefully find the word you need...almost by accident...

there used to be a little paperback called "The Awful Speller's Dictionary" which listed some 10,000 words by the WRONG spellings and then gave you the correct (U.K.Eng) one.

Just googled it: Albris books have it at over $50!!!!!

Whoops, yep Cris. More and more lately my fingers prefer to type homophones rather than the word I know is the right one, usually I catch it as soon as I type it, but that one slipped through. (And yes that one wasn't even technically a homophone so clearly my fingers are branching out even more on their own.) Truly I don't understand it as I picture the word with the right spelling in my head, but my fingers don't bother paying attention.

Just as an update - Global Priority mail is now $12.00. Sorry, but it is the best and almost the cheapest way to send the guide overseas.
Forgot to add that Priority mail in the US is now $4.60.

You tell me? I've been paying about $10-$12 for paperbacks being sent from the US to me... Why do you think I kept (mis)using Cheryl's generosity?

Even a single paperback from the UK to me is at least (depending on seller) ca. 2.50 pounds = 5 dollars.

Wow...what a wonderful idea! I'll have to check into buying one from you once we get moved (in June). Between my Dad and I, and what we inherited from my Grandpa (the Original Anne McCaffrey addict in the family) we have SO many of her books/stories. A lot of our books of hers are from the Sci/Fi bookclub, so they're really odd compilations. Three or four books in one volume, and most of them I've never seen anywhere else. I'd be very curious to see if they'd be in there! Not to mention I'd love to get any books and magazines we don't already have.

Thank you so much! Yea, Grandpa was the one who got us ALL started reading Anne's works. He got me reading, by simply sitting in his chair reading. Made me wonder what it was all about. What I would like to do sometime soon, is go through all the books we have and get them all organized by author, so we know what we have, what we need, and can get to them all fairly easily. Unfortunately my Dad and Grandma's house is covered in bookshelves, down at Grandpa's store, the whole back room is bookshelves, and there are TONS of books up in the attic there. So it's going to take a couple of trailer loads to get them all in one place. It's going to be a huge undertaking but I really hope I can do it sometime soon. I just get all tingly at the thought of seeing all those books, most of which are older than me (I'm 31). And they're ALL books that my Grandpa and Dad have read. It's exciting to me. lol I don't think I could ever work in a bookstore or a library. It would be like asking an alcoholic to tend bar. I'd never get any work done cause I'd always be reading!

Oh, what a wonderful task you have ahead of you! It will take a while to accomplish from the number of books I'm imagining. I hope you've a laptop and Excel to help you catalog them all. It will be well worth the effort in the end tho, Missy Jo.
Hope the move went smoothly and you're settling in well.

Hi, I'm new to MOM. I've been an AM fan since elementary school (we don't have to say how long ago that was. I've been collecting US editions since the late 1980's. I started replacing my US editions with signed 1/1st a couple years ago and I started branching out a little more this last year.

To make a long story short, I am interested in buying two copies of you guide. In addition, I have a question on The Tower & The Hive US HB 1/1. I've found it with both blue boards and purple boards. Which is the true 1/1? Anyone have any data?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to your reply.

Warmly,

Welcome Irulan

As for the collectors guide, I suggest you PM or email Becky, too.

And for the Tower & Hive book... hmm, it is of (course) not covered by Hargreaves. I do have a signed 1st/1st myself but am at work now but I will check what my version is like when I'm home.

Good to have another collector joining us Do share any interesting data (like what you already posted) with us, please

Oh, and if you feel like it, do introduce yourself in the newcomers Thread in the Café

Irulan...I think you will find Becky's guide very informative and handy.
When you really get into your collecting though, you might also want to go and find yourself a good copy of Hargrave's. There's a *Highlight* about it somewheres here on MoM that tells all about it and it's incredible value to any serious AMC collector.

Thanks for your interest, Irulan and Welcome to MoM!!! Sorry for the delay in posting this particular message. I've got your PM and replying to it now.
Always glad to add another collector to our fold! It's great to get different perspectives and input on things.
